[roker report] The "Udinese Model"

Re: The Udinese way

The problem with going down this route is that if we look to sell one of our decent players like Udinese do, even for a great profit, people will start moaning. Just look at Mignolet.

If we are going to go down this route people need to accept that good players will leave

Except, of course, the article also makes mention of Udinese deciding to retain the services of some core players (Di Natale and Jorgensen being the examples used). Therefore, even under the 'Udinese model' there is no definite need to sell every player at the earliest opportunity for the first big fee being offered.

It is also worthy of note that the financial circumstances of the Premier League in 2013 are not the same as Serie A and Sunderland are not the same size club as Udinese (for example, their average attendance Serie A is 17k-18k).

I am hoping that if we are able to remodel our scouting system by adopting some of the systems and contacts that might be arriving, then the most significant advantage will be a footballing one rather than primarily a benefit to the balance sheet. Accountancy is never going to catch on as a spectator sport, in my opinion.

Re: The Udinese way

Good article, informative and interesting. The Udinese model is definitely one that we should be following. But it will take more than this one scout to follow the system, we'll need to spend millions on sending the best scouts all around the world. Hopefully our feeder clubs in Belgium and Africa can help to implement this.

What a signing Di Natale has been. £100k and he's scored 185 goals in 347 games.

One of my all time favourite players. A classy player and and deadly in front of goal. To use the cliche, he's like a fine wine, getting better with age. 26 goals at the age of 35.

That seems to be Short's plan.

Although Short does not want Sunderland to become a finishing school for bigger clubs, he is intent on making the club more self-sufficient after seeing big money wasted on players who have become a burden on the wage bill or have had to be moved on.

It doesn't matter who you are. Good players leave. Ronaldo?..Beckham..Rooney? they don't come much bigger than Manure

Re: The Udinese way

At least it is a strategy - one big step for us I think.

Re: Black and white Udinese team set to become Sunderland blueprint

that's in the chronicle :lol::lol:

f***ing hell is the editor and chief writer on the pat and mick or has that been pulled from elsewhere?

Re: Black and white Udinese team set to become Sunderland blueprint

Sounds extremely encouraging. Just hope we can make it work here!

Re: Black and white Udinese team set to become Sunderland blueprint

That all sounds great but do Udinese have a fan base made up of impatient we want it all by now idiots who will hound everyone out at the first sign of trouble? :)

Re: Black and white Udinese team set to become Sunderland blueprint

It's about the scout not the club surely?

Re: Black and white Udinese team set to become Sunderland blueprint

It's a good model to follow really, whether It will be successful here is another thing like but at least we are working towards a "philosophy".

Re: Black and white Udinese team set to become Sunderland blueprint

Why not change the "model" i mean the current one hasnt really been a raving success has it??
