Re: [roker report] Captain's Blog: At Bruce's Behest - Drawing My Own Gyan Conclusion

We have the Ghanaian journalist Gary Al Smith on the RR podcast this week who knows Gyan personally. Wasn't brilliant hearing what he had to say about it all. Very worrying indeed. Our's isn't out until Friday, but he was also on the Elastico podcast talking about the same thing for anyone wanting to hear it.

He is hardly going to be scathing towards him is he, or are you saying this bloke is totally unbiased

I'm sure Bruce's wife would say that Gyan was greedy and shafted the club too. I really wouldn't draw any conclusions from it.

Actually, he was fairly scathing towards him for his final decision of where to go. Said that Gyan owed SAFC considerably more and had made an awful decision. But it was the pretext that was so worrying.

My thoughts exactly, a person who personally knows Gyan is hardly going to piss him off and say his true feeling on the matter.

Guessing here but he has probably ran past Gyan or his agent what he is putting out there

Have you listened to it? You seem to be making an assumption that he was dumping all the blame on the club and absolving Gyan of all responsibility. That isn't the case at all.

I'm listening to it now. Good stuff. As you say, he's not bigging Gyan up at all.
One thing I can't understand is..why don't Al Ain buy loads of top (ish) players if money's no object? Couldn't they just take just about anyone from the premiership bar Rooney + the Man City squad?

Re: [roker report] Captain's Blog: At Bruce's Behest - Drawing My Own Gyan Conclusion

The biggest common denominator in Gyan and Bent leaving is money. I'm convinced both would have stayed had we upped their wages so the regime here can't be that bad.

I'm a passionate Bruce outer but it's unfair to blame him here IMO.

As I said earlier-if it isn't just about the money, and Gyan's criticims are to be given any sort of credulity, it would require players to be able to find a sense of footballing satisfaction and sense of team spirit in a context which, money aside, compares only slightly more favourable than the conference here

Seems to be more the case of wanting one marquis signing. The very top players in Europe can get the money they want in here without making a big step down I suppose.

I'm sure they're only allowed four high earning players...

I was half right, sort of:

UAE Pro-League rules limit clubs to four foreigners per squad, one of whom must be an Asian Football Confederation player.

Very interesting. If the money is there, meaning the opportunity is there, you wonder why they don't just relax the rules and go for it.

Perhaps it's cos they're trying to get FIFA to relax the rules instead.

Principally the rules about changing your nationality ...
