Roker Rapport Podcast: With Jack Ross & James Fowler - Questions?

We've managed to bag an hour or so with Jack Ross and James Fowler tomorrow, and from my perspective it's a chance for us fans to get to know the pair away from the pitch and the press.

Have you got any questions that you'd like us to ask? Reply here and we'll do our best to get everything covered.

Similar questions as above.

Please ask why we don't pressure the ball as much. I've saw too many tine recently where we are also happy to sit on the half way line and allow the opposition time on the ball.

Also ask why are we useless on set-pieces and what are we going to do to improve this

When Ross arrived he had a reputation for having an attacking style and sending his teams out with a high tempo with the ball and high press without it.

That generally hasn’t really materialised here. Has he consciously had to change his approach and if so, why? If he hasn’t changed his approach/tactics, why does he feel that it hasn’t really been happening for us? Personnel? Opposition?

In the pre-match routine, why do we keep practising shooting when we hardly ever shoot during the match?
Why play Wyke in an isolated role without support?
What happened to the high press?
Could we not have a bit more emotion/direction from our bench during the match? We seem very accepting of how things are going during the 90 minutes.

I read that he thinks everytime you get into the final 3rd you should create an opportunity rather than rushing, so this is why we see a lot of passes around the box and switching play. However i feel like at times we slow the game down too much and with the players we have, being more direct, playing and moving the ball quicker in the final 3rd would give us a better chance to create opportunities. Is this something they've tried in training but decided to approach slowly to try and ensure they get an opportunity at goal

Also has he considered kicking towards the 'Roker End' for the 2nd half? And changing the benches so that we can get in the linesmans ears as Donald mentioned he would do

1. Oviedo has provided more assists this season than any other player bar McGeady, why is he out of sorts? He offers us width and is an attacking threat. If there is not a position for him in defence, has he considered playing him in a more advanced role?

2. Wyke is finding it difficult playing the lone role up front, what's Jack Ross's expectation for the lad? Is he expected to come deep and attempt to hold up the ball (if so, he needs the midfield to get forward quicker and support him), or is he expected to play on the shoulder of the last defender?

3. Set pieces aren't working. Corners are pointless at the moment, are we actually working on set pieces? What can we look to do differently so we can begin to cause the opposition problems?

4. Why do we tend to play two defensive midfielders at home when we're expected to break teams down?

5. Is Jack Ross concerned with our sluggish starts? We often start games slowly and we have not scored more than one goal in a league game since November, how does Ross intend to address this?

6. What is Jack's thought process behind regularly waiting 5-10 minutes in the second half to make changes when it appears that we could benefit from a change at half time?

I can’t imagine he’ll be too willing to answer many of these questions, especially ones in which he exposes his tactics further.

Do hope that JR finds the right system, and we finally come good. Wimbledon had better chances than us on Saturday and they’re bottom.

Max power has been playing a deeper role following his disciplinary issues, significantly to the detriment of his performances and ergo the teams. Can this be stopped please?

What's the thinking behind 2 holding defensive minded players while allowing a player with a modest attacking skillset in honeyman to play as a 10.
honeyman has done well..we stopped winning when he was injured..he came back saturday and we won..with him playing very well espe ially in the first half..honeyman scored afew last year as well..

Sounds like we will be lucky to stay up this season judging by the questions.

How about, Jack you inherited a shit storm following three incompetent managers, a squad full of players who were either shyte demotivated or didn’t want to be here, how have you Managed within 6 months of being here to get us into a position as to where we are one of the favourites for promotion.
