He retired. He was 68 when he left and worked in there for the vast majority of his adult life. He still lives with his Mam.

Crikey, I forgot about that! What I do remember is that he used to sneakily give what punters thought were the answers on a quiz night. Obviously, they were all wrong and he knew fine well!

When I was 9 or 10, my dad and a couple of his mates took me there after a match to have a meal. We were joined by George Herd, Martin Harvey, Monty, Mike Hellawell and a couple of other players.
One of my dads mates, a local farmer, was well in with a couple of the directors at the time, and often did this, apparently.
George Herd bought me a coca cola. Nice bloke.
