Rodwell

Our main, almost only threat is the ball over the top for Defoe. He needs to be on the last man. N'Doye was shite today and I would drop him for Borini if anything, then rodwell for cattermole.

Which we aren't getting much joy from mate. I'd give N'doye a try with Defoe told to make late runs every time it's played up to him. The lad is excellent in the air.

This thread is about Rodwell.

PVA is being debated on another thread

Swings and roundabouts really, we all have our pet likes/hates

This is my point mate. People are saying he did well for f***ing up. "At least he was in the position to fuck up". Class, he was on the pitch and wandered into the box as he was told. Then, missed a chance which was better than a penalty.
I don't see many defending PVA for being in his correct position before giving the ball away for the goal.
He was actually driving forward from deep in midfield and looked effective doing it. To be honest I don't think we can even judge Rodwell as a player, he's never been able to stay fit and have a run of games and he's probably never going to be able to. Not easy coming in every now and then and breaking down again. Feel sorry for the lad.

Rodwell missed two fantastic opportunities today and he should have put at least one of them away

saying that we looked better when he came on and I suppose you could say at least he got in those positions for the chances he had. I would probably give him a start against Palace instead of Cattermole.

How the Fuk did he miss that sitter? Easier to score it ffs. Clown

This is why I did the OP, no eloquent, balanced or anything else but simply because I was pissed off about the miss. It was easier than a penalty bit, if we'd been given one of those the misser wouldn't have been praised on here, I bet.

Why? Running from responsability, disappearing completely from games, playing like a fat 60 year old while being one of the top earners at the club? Yeah, a great guy to feel sorry for. I would rather feel sorry for Fletcher.

Did okay against Man Utd, and by all accounts did okay today except for missing a couple of decent chances, chances Defoe also missed.
Seems like Rodwell is the easy scapegoat.because no thread about Defoe missing chances.

He has some talent but hasn't got the competitive edge to be an effective top flight player imo.

Says a lot about the way young English players are brought through these days that this wasn't exposed before he got two big money moves and 3 international caps.

Injuries obviously haven't helped either.

Defoe missed a chance while having a very good season, Rodwell missed two chances after 18 months of absolute shite. And I don't blame him for missing, I blame those who think him f***ing up two incredible chances means he did well and he should be a regular.

I pride myself on it.

As for people saying he did well aye, let's laud someone who had 2 very good chances (1 better than a penalty) to possibly help us out of this shit and fucked them up.
Doesn't matter if we go down, as long as we miss sitters eh? Great stuff
I just think that sometimes it's easy to make him the scapegoat. Defoe missed chances too, but Rodwell is sometimes the easiest target.

Agree Janey. And from a personal perspective Im not saying Rodwell should be a regular BUT if BSA is going to persist with this formation ie Catts playing a more forward role, Rodwell is the better of two evils. He is better then catts playing that role

But the Rodwell haters will not have this

I'm not absolving him of blame, I'm well aware of his failings, I just think that sometimes he's an easy target to pick on. Defoe had a couple of great chances and didn't score, he's had a brilliant season, but I don't think he's had a brilliant season so excuse his misses anymore than I think Rodwell has had a shit season and excuse his misses.
Good or bad a miss is a miss

And why is that?
Because some won't move from their position that he's shit regardless of what he does.

I'm not sure if Rodwell is the answer, but we can't keep playing 3 defensively-minded central midfielders if we want to start winning games on a regular basis.
