No I was using the Skyscanner mobile app on my phone. I've now got my laptop and went to the Skyscanner website. I can now select the two months and destination I want. It's not really much use though. Because I've got a four day window to depart I've really got to put in a specific date. Thanks for your help with this it was appreciated.
Search on another device?
Just done that, cheers.

Have you tried from Schipol? Might be a few flights with it being a former Dutch colony.

No I'll have a look at that. I'll obviously have to book flights from here to Schiphol but I'll see if it works out cheaper.
Time comes into it as well as cost. I've seen cheaper flights on Google flights but they usually involved flying to Germany with Lufthansa then Singapore with Singapore airways then another to Jakarta. I'd rather pay more to avoid the length of time it takes with the layovers. Plus I'd rather stick to one airline for bagage transfers.

just returned from a short notice trip back to the UK from Oz. prices ranged from $8k - $10k economy return if i wanted to fly within a week of making the booking to around $5k return if went a week later (which i did). prices are normally around te $2k mark.

I thought the flights would be chocka but there were a fair few empty seats, so surprised that they were charging so much for them.

Yeah, I've seen really cheap last minute flights to Florida with Tui.
Tui prices to Florida have been crazy since about 2018.
If you don't have set dates then keep an eye on them and guaranteed you will get something good.
2018 we got a family of 4 in 2 bed apartment in nice hotel for £2100 for 14 days.
Last year we got flights only from Doncaster for £300 each.
Just booked this week for flights from Newcastle for £350 (same flight is now showing seats as £850)

More people want to fly at 19:30 and 02:30. If they were the same price then everyone would book the evening flight leaving the one in the middle of the night empty. It's all about managing demand and loading levels.
Thanks for explaining the clock to me, I didn't realise.
Doesn't justify such a big increase. Regardless of what the market will bear.

It really isn't a scam. It is the best way a business can maximise it's income. It can also mean very cheap deals.

If the airlines fix the pricing between them then that is a scam.
Price collusion is one scam
Having no real transparent pricing policy is another
Yes have a sliding scale ,early bird cheaper etc ,but you get loads of " last seats "
" cheapest available " tricks going on .
Same with hotels and trains
I was looking for London trains for my son yesterday
I was busy at work
I used my phone ,my desk top ,then my tablet when I got in
All within a few hours
The prices were different on every look up
Also the " last two seats " type messages etc

It's not a scam as it's not illegal.

Everywhere does it, it's no different to going to SCS and them having manager specials, or one day only offers. Or going to ASDA and the price of Babybel yoyo'ing up and down every week with it being £2 one week, £1.50 the next, £2.50 the week after and £1.00 the week after that.

It's not the last two seats, it's the last two seats at that price and it's always pretty clear aswell.

You're right but we are using Scam as a general reaction to stuff like this
Yes others do it ,it doesn't mean it's right
Dfs non stop sale is a standing joke in thia country so how is that good business ?
Nothing wrong with a 1 day only deal ,if it's genuine
The cheese comparison is a bit cheesy
The amount of money involved for a start plus you pay your money and get your cheese there and then . If it's a bit high buy Kraft triangles
If easyjet say For Two days all seats are 25% less and they were ,then they went back up ,again that's okay
We all get emails from them and hoseasons and the like and you open it and the headline deal is just waffle .
I fly to Crete every year and you start the wheel of fortune price gathering 5 or 6 months before and it's just all over the place daily

I was watching an old film from the early 70s recently and the main character went to the airport, got on a plane and bought a ticket for the flight once on board. He had to give his name but didn't have to show ID, and paid cash for the flight

Yes the trains are a dark art. Never worked out the best time to book.

Sadly we have to take the blame aswell as we'd rather have seats From £20 where 3 seats are that price and the rest £40 rather than every seat £35.

The first is a bargain, the second option is omg the prices went up £15.

People are thick as when it comes to pricing. Don't disagree though. I'd rather pay a bit more but able to get it anytime. Hotels are just as bad for it.
