Good to see him looking in fine fettle on The Verdict.

One of my favourite players growing up, his 167* ODI knock against the Aussies, what an innings.

Shame the way he fizzled out once a certain SK Warne appeared on the scene.
 

He was a very very good batter against pace, when curtly ambrose, Malcolm Marshall and Courtney Walsh at his fastest were scaring the bejeezus out of the rest of the England team. I think he’s had his mental health issues so it is good to see him looking well.

I was always puzzled. I know he got injured, recovered and came back but didn't seem to be back for long before being given the boot.

Just thought it was odd. If he was experiencing mental health issues at that time it would be an explanation.

Was during the "illingworth Supremo" days though wasn't it? Selection was all over the place in those days

My favourite memory of the Illingworth era was when he picked Lancashire's Mike Watkinson as an off spinning all rounder and before the start of play one day he placed his hanky on a length and stood watching as Watkinson attempted to land the ball there 6 times in a row
