Riverside Sunder

(“Riverside Sunderland” the title should say)

Just heard of these people.
Is it a new dawn for the urban core of Wearside? Or talking shop that achieves little?

Some is already happening innit?

New civic, auditorium. L&G doing another office block now the Beam has got a few tenants in.

Nothing wrong with the aspiration and some of it is already happening.
A long way to go but let’s hope the momentum can be maintained and carried through.
It certainly feels more professional than say Siglion. I personally think building the new civic there is a good idea and with the additional external investment it can take off. If there are an extra 6000 workers (or even half of that) in the city centre that will make an incredible difference to it's fortunes.

Yep, it's all a little late as many of us called this out many many years ago but it looks promising. It's a real uphill struggle for post-industrial towns like Sunderland and it needs good planners and leaders.

Don’t know.......nothing being built other than the public funded new civic centre

to be fair they only announced L&G deal in November so it would be some going to go from then to now to have another project on site. Don’t think a planning application has been submitted yet has it?

obviously there is the talk of a new pedestrian bridge and possibly a new library, as well as redevelopment of the galleys gill park. Sounds great in theory but suspect any margin is minimal if at all down there from a development perspective.

sadly planners have little to do with it As they can’t control aesthetic quality of development as at the moment the market conditions make any development marginal. any Quality will need to be developed / subsidised by the council or via grant.

Rumours on Facebook that the new civic is too small before it’s even built.

It is Siglion that's doing it. Well Siglion mk2 which is basically just the council.

legal & general have already invested lots into it, there's a second building going up and there's plans been drawn up and public consultations. there's a lot of investment happening of which you can see some of that happening now. i saw somewhere that said the council are also installing pontoons at the river by the university to make more use of it for boats
