Ring doorbell any good ?

Yeah I have one. We’ve not had anything sketchy happen since we go it.

Had an opportunity to possibly help out when a window cleaner working over the road had some of his poles pinched from his van. Unfortunately it doesn’t get triggered by motion that far over the road.

How does that work?

We don't pay the subscription either, but when I go into the history it doesn't let me view or download any of the stored events. It tells me I need a subscription to be able to do this in future.
I thought that. People say without a sub its very basic. Read the Amazon reviews and you will see.

I have a ring doorbell 3, 2 ring floodlight cams and a ring alarm, the kit is absolutely fantastic and the app is so easy to use, all the ring doorbell models now have a removable battery so you don’t need the more expensive plus version to get this benefit.
You can set your boundaries so you don’t record beyond them, you literally have a live camera view of your property and you draw round it using little nodes, couldn’t be easier. It doesn’t matter if delivery drivers use it or not, it records when it detects movement, so any drivers thinking by not ringing it they avoid that are dead wrong.
You can also link your camera’s and lights together, we have all three cameras linked, if one is triggered they all record and turn the lights on simultaneously, floodlights the whole property, if anyone is looking around it hopefully will dissuade them.
We pay £80 per year subscription, for that you get 30 days of recordings stored, alarm monitoring and a lifetime warranty on all devices as long as we keep the subscription.
A month ago i noticed that the camera lens cover on our old ring doorbell 1 was delaminating after 6 years of use, called ring to report it and they asked for a photo, i uploaded it while they waited. The call handler then said i’ll post you a new ring 3 doorbell out right now, had it installed 2 days later. No fuss no bother just replaced it as promised in their contract blurb.
I honestly could’t recommend them highly enough, it just works and that’s what is important to me.

Yep, i've got pretty much all Tapo stuff with it all being integrated into the one app (have some smart home stuff as well). I've actually got their door bell, picture quality is second to none (2k) and like you said its all being stored locally. (Came with a storage device too, just need a micro SD card) ... Its probably bigger than the ring doorbell so will put some people off but I prefer the wireless setup of all Tapo devices

I've been impressed with all of the Tapo kit I've got (camera, light bulbs, sensors, smart switches). It's clearly consumer grade but remarkable functionality for the price. TP Link used to be confusing as they had the Kasa and Tapo lines which worked separately but now they can both be managed with the same app.

You're bang on. For the day to day they've clearly focused on the end user experience and making it as accessible as possible and they succeed in every way. I'm looking to finally setup a wifi mesh round the house and I know their deco products get a good review but may cast my looks further a field when it comes to this.

Got one last year and very handy.
I get an alert whenever someone is near our front door. I paid for the sub which gives you access to recordings it has taken in the past. I tend to review any every few days and delete out what I don't need to keep. It doesn't record continuously, it only kicks when there is movement or you can connect to it live anytime you like.

I'm thinking about getting a second one for the back of the house.

I've had the odd connectivity issue when the video isn't available but it generally works well. Handy if we are away and you can see what's going on around or house. I have a couple of smart plugs so can switch lights on and off inside the house using Alexa.

I'm like Joe 90 🤣
I am looking into getting one. Whenever someone knocks on my door I don’t hear it cos it’s essentially a porch door they knock on. A ring would eliminate the need for them to knock on the window

They are great. If the postman needs to speak to me he rings the doorbell and lets me know where he is putting the parcel
I can also check when the Mother In Law leaves so I know the coast is clear.

Does the job, others do similar such as Hey I'm Home.

The monthly sub is if you want to be able to record who's at your door. This helped a neighbour of mine who had a parcel nicked off her doorstep. Otherwise you don't need it

Got one in summer with a echo screen thing. Spot on.
I have a little Echo thing on my desk and the doorbell went earlier when I was in the middle of something. Just a delivery driver trying to drop off a neighbour's parcel so I ignored them and they went next door.
I think they are great. I have the whole set up, doorbell, alarm, CCTV.
Amount of comedy stuff I pick up is amazing. People filming little Bollywood style movies next to my car or getting photos taken with it and I have no idea why. Middle of the day when I'm sat in the house as well.

YI Smart Security Camera, 1080p Wifi Home Indoor Camera with AI Human detection, Night vision, Activity alerts for home, pet, nanny monitor, Cloud and micro SD card storage, Works with Alexa https://amzn.eu/d/044PWWI
These are fab for the outlay.
Dont need subscription to record and keep history, app on phone has instant alerts.
Just plug in and have on windowsill facing out.

I bought 2 of these the other day for £130
Amazon.co.uk eufy Security S220 SoloCam Solar Security Camera Outdoor Wireless, Continuous Power, 2K Resolution Home Security Camera, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, No Monthly Fee
Built in solar panel with a battery that apparently lasts 3 months anyway.

So zero wires to install. Just screw the backing plate to where you want to install and then push it all in. Took me half and hour, and 20 minutes of that was checking there was enough Wifi strength to make them work.

So far so good
Forgot to mention. Added bonus - you can hear them on the phone app too AND you can talk back live.

So you can do the Phoenix Nights joke - "Get back ya bastard, I'll break ya legs"

(Yes, I literally did this)
