Ridiculous we threw the towel in for automatic promotion 3 games ago

We haven't been good enough to deserve to finish in the top 2 over the course of the season as 3 above have been better. It's disappointing but we constantly don't need to look for someone to blame, it's been a good season in comparison to last.

Awful lack of ambition. Must have been around 36 points left to play for at the time and only 7 points behind 2nd now. Top 2 was still achievable. Why wasn’t the manager coming out and saying he wanted us to go on an unbeaten run until the end of the season and go for it. Instead we have this complete lack of ambition again where we have decided the play offs is a good season even though we were top. We basically wrote the rest of the season off with about 12 games to go as long as we stumble across the line into the play offs it’s seen as ok. It stems from the top. Owner not desperate for promotion, neither is owner and it rubs off on players.

Still raging about this like. Absolutely pathetic

Whereas you’ve been saying we wouldn’t get promoted all season? Because of our lack of strikers?

Talk about throwing in the towel…

Going big in the January transfer window was the only realistic chance we had of getting automatics. We didn’t, and we don’t have the experience, depth of killer instinct to win games at the rate that Sheffield Utd and Leeds do.

It’s about being better than everyone in the playoffs.
We signed a couple of loans in January. Le Fee which was canny but was played out of position until he got injured. And an injured youngster on loan who’s looking likely not to make a single appearance for us. Smacks of genuine ambition to get automatic promotion right enough

In a nutshell.

At no point over the season have I ever believed we would win promotion. Currently we are where we deserve to be. In fact we're several places higher than I expected so it's a well done lads from me. Gaining promotion via the play offs with this side would be some achievement. IMO we're at least two years away from being genuine contenders. Hang on to a core of four or five players, a couple of shrewd buys after flopping some young lads showing potential and we'll be knocking at the door.

Not sure what your point is. Most of my comments you have highlighted are spot on. Isidor missed simple header tonight it’s cost us 3 points. He’s missed 2 pens down burnley which cost us another 3. So when i said “until we have a decent striker we aren’t going up automatically “ back in December I have been proved 100% correct. I wasn’t throwing the towel in I was talking 100% sense. I also said we are “too nice a side to play against “ - ask Plymouth!

They are still trying, they’re just not good enough. Hopefully now the constant ‘we can still get automatically printed’ threads will stop.

I can’t remember where my predicted finishing place would be back at the start of the season but it wasn’t anywhere near playoffs never mind automatic promotion.

It’s the expectations of others that has caused the atmosphere on here. Those that thought we have some degree of quality that’s way better than what we actually have. Some really did believe in the hype. That’s the problem. In reality we haven’t really moved from where we were at the start of our first season in the Championship anywhere near where some think we have. The team we now have is probably closer to the one that got us promotion than the one some supporters think we have.

Looking at last nights shambolic performance and the fact it takes far greater effort with a fully fit XI to achieve a fraction of what teams like Sheffield United and Leeds United can do with a half fit team, and even then theirs no guarantee of success, is evidence enough of how little we have progressed.

Against Preston North End those above us would have assessed the situation, how they play and what threat they possess, and come up with a level of performance and tactic to deal with them. We are bereft of any ideas on how to approach most sides in this league and often don’t have enough about us to beat them.

I take it everyone has worked out why we had an overdraft and why we now have loans from the Dreyfus family (presumably with interest)? Looks like KLD stopped putting any money of his own into this club a while ago.

I didn't expect us to have as good a season as we have and am over the moon at how we've done so far. That being said, there is still a tinge of disappointment as there is a feeling that we've let a massive opportunity slip by
