Aye that was my point like.
Has s kids portion of fish fingers and beans for example
Thought it was excellent, but didn’t laugh that much at all really.
Your post is unrealistic marra
Its growing on me a bit
People need to remember its a comedy show, so aye obviously its unrealistic, it would be far too depressing and edgy if it was true to life
Its cliched obviously but its not bad.
Yeah good point that. It's not a documentary is it.
I can think of a handful of shows in the history of television that were actually realistic when you thought about it
to be fair mate, thats possible
Agreed with you initially but I've enjoyed it more like, some of it is rehashed and some nearly all of the characters are slapstick and one dimensional but I actually like it now.
I always enjoy good use of music in any television or film
I know it is. That was my point.
Didn’t think it needed the drugs bit with H in mind
A grown man choosing to take drugs is too far, but threatening to smash a primary school's head in with a hammer is okay?
I thought for one moment he'd got Carl Pilkington to do another podcast.
Other than that, I have no time for Ricky Gervais.
Cheers mate, appreciate the reply!
You’re missing the point about realism.
In Alan Partridge there’s loads of little details that you’re kind of seeing out of the corner of your eye that makes it look like it bears repeated watching.
In this it doesn’t do that and it makes it look lazy.
And yeah ok he wants a kids portion at the cafe but he gives the junkie a stack of cash, he offers Daphne a wad for cleaning, he buys the fcking postman a bottle of wine and he lives in an amazing place - basically he’s written as Ricky Gervais not ‘local journo on a shit wage’ “Tony”
I can see how it appeals to people who love dogs, don’t think heroin is addictive or are missing someone close to them but as a comedy it’s shit.
We shall agree to disagree then.
Thought it was brilliant, if I didn't I would have turned it off and watched something else......not sure why people watch the whole lot then slag it off......
Not his best work imo, had some good bits but felt it was a bit naff at times.
I'd rank it 4th behind The Office, Derek & Extras (in that order) - not counting the podcasts as the humour was more down to Karl in that than Ricky (aye I know Ricky discovered Karl etc).
Gervais is brilliant mind.
I think that a lot of the setting being in a middle England market town, nice house, not far from a park, near the beach, has a job, has disposable cash etc
(aspirational goals for some)
was to accentuate the effects of his depression , his loss etc
and maybe to encourage a reaction from the viewers?
Half way through ep1
This character is my spirit animal
Maybe but its not just that, comedy shows and TV shows in general need characters who have a lot of spare time on their hands, it just wouldn't work having the characters at work all day (unless its about the work like the office), it means they can get up to all sorts
Its why a lot of shows don't have kids for the large part, too much time spent explaining where they are etc
Imagine if all the plots had to be fit into between 6 and 10 at night when people get out of work!
Thats my view anyway, I don't pay too much attention to that part for that reason, all shows are unrealistic, best not to overthink it.
I thought your point was the opposite, must have misread
"I've just threatened a 10 year old kid with a hammer."
"They gotta learn."
Watched the whole first series. A bit worrying how much I empathised with the main character.
Kid was ginger tbf
