With hindsight we should have stuck to the deal. We could have sold him to recoup some of the transfer fee and he n the end we would be better off than we are now.

The real culprit is not the one who did the original deal, as it was standard to have a buy clause in overseas loans. It is the idiot who though we could get out of the contract. They might well be the same people, but it was our failure to comply with the contract we signed which created this mess. Just. A shame we didn't have a CEO with a law degree at the time, as a simply reading of contract law Was all that was needed. 😁
 
It wasn't so much the decision to sign him that caused the problem as when fit again he would have had some residual value. The catastrophic mistake was trying to be clever and avoid having to sign him. Was that not Byrne's fault?
congerton should be the negotiator not the ceo-but who knows what actual arrangement they had..
