Renting caravans out

Anyone into that game on holiday parks? No interest in doing it myself but just curious if it's been actually worth it for people and if it covers the fee for the site itself. Just recently booked for 4 nights later in the year and booked privately. The owners have a Facebook page advertising there van and just recently they've posted what dates are available. Seemed to be pretty much all dates available in the summer 6 weeks off still. All seems a bit chewy if your relying on the rents to help cover fees and other expenses

Brother has a lodge he rents out at Wooler and its a pain right now as the site fees have all gone up so his prices have and he is struggling to get it booked out

Our lass has one but hardly uses it, last year I think she used it once as she hasn't been well. Her mate who also owns a couple sometimes puts her clients in our lasses caravan if hers are fully booked. Money pit if you ask me but she wont sell it.

It’s all location dependent surely? Crimdon dean will be a nightmare to make any kind of return, but Fallbarrow in Bowness is an absolute goldmine

It's a giant unregulated scam. Fees raised constantly etc. Vans worth next to nowt if you want out.

Much cheaper just to rent in if you want one

I'm surprised these scumbag sites get away with it.
Inlaws £75k static in PERFECT condition (literally perfect) was valued by the site at about a grand when it was 13 years old. They were allowed to sell elsewhere, but not without "disconnection and movement" fees that were literal extortion.

A £25k touring caravan is worth about £8k at that age. For comparison.

No but I know people who have, and to be honest it's the only way to own one otherwise you'd be forking out the obscene site fees not to mention the purchase of the caravans which can easily be in excess of £50k all out of your own pocket.

Absolute thieves. had a van on the Saltburn site for over 30 yrs. 15yrs ago I bought a new van for 25k . Had to pay the site to have it put on my plot. They started removing vans and replacing em with lodges , I got 9k for mine.
Lodges an even bigger scam . 100k plus and they depreciate rapidly. On top of that , if you sell your lodge you have to pay the site owners 15% . robbery. I didn't take up the offer of a lodge obviously. Wife and I miss Saltburn . All the kids and grandkids spent their summer holidays there with us.

My sister bought brand new down Poole and the park guaranteed a certain income from rental, it was a good chunk but it was all mad amounts of money for a few games of bingo and and the odd nice day

Agree with the sentiments above. I had my tourer sited at Akebar near Leyburn but knew a load of static owners there. They were getting royally ripped off. It's disgusting what they can get away with. They charged £1500 to disconnect the electric and gas and tow it to the top of the site if you wanted to sell externally. They're cartels.

Some of the site fees on the haven and park dean resort sites are north of 4k a year....that's without gas/electricity/insurance etc...
As others have said its a money pit....
If you factor in all the associated costs you can have a fair few decent holidays anyway without the hassle....
