Regis le Bris - confirmed

I just find the defence "Well they sold his two best players" is dismissing a lot of worrying signs. There were several ligue 1 sides that worked under similar conditions that didnt get relegated. Its a factor he had to deal with and it made his job harder sure but pretending it was insurmountable or suggesting Lorient have never finished any higher than 10th or are lucky to be in the division is sweeping the facts under the rug.
How many of those clubs managers were so pissed off with the recruitment that they asked to leave and were forced to stay?

I’d say that’s a huge mitigating factor, not wanting to be there and having a few egos pushed into a squad you’ve helped build unity with.

I’m not saying it’s the only reason they were relegated, but it does sound like a bad situation overall and I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Just had a look out of interest. Lorient are pretty much in the middle for gross income / expenditure and net spend. The five teams around them in the relegation zone spent < £10m compare to Lorient's £30m. Reims are a good comparison. They finished 11th the season Le Bris finished 10th. They sold 29 players for £75m including Ekitike who was their top scorer and both of their centre midfielders. They spent £50m in return to finish 9th this year. There are various other similar examples.

I'm not picking you out for this in particular by the way...

29 players is a massive turnaround. I wonder if any decent manager could do any better under those circumstances. It is not how many players you have brought in but how long you were given for them to bond. Difficult in a struggling team.
Dont worry he is coming by boat and Rishi has said he will turn back the boats phew thank god.

That is Farage. Rushi has been welcoming the boats for years.

That was Reims who sold 29 players.

Lorient sold 21 for £50m. My point was Reims managed, Lorient didnt.

Sunderland’s view is that it’s worth scratching a little below the surface in that regard. Le Bris’ initial promotion to the top job at Lorient was hugely successful, finishing in a widely-praised 10th-placed finish. Le Bris is understood to have been on the club’s longer-term radar since around that time, at which point he was heavily linked with the job at OGC Nice - only compensation prevented him taking one of the biggest jobs in France.

With key players (whose development Le Bris had played a key role in) departing as a result of that strong campaign, the belief is that there are mitigating circumstances for last season and that it may have presented them with an opportunity to hire a coach of a calibre who may otherwise have been out of the reach of a second-tier club.

Other factors in Le Bris’ favour is his record in youth development, having spent long periods both in the academy at Lorient and also at Stade Rennais. His English is said to be good and Sunderland believe both his coaching and playing style will suit both the squad and the wider strategy
Me and you both know it’s a fkn joke … let’s boil the piss of it …

He's talking about Reims losing 29 players, and they improved their league position, under Will Still...

I hadnt seen that article til your post. If he's been outspoken about the Lorient board who spent £60m and gave him the 8th highest budget in Ligue 1 then I cant see him being very happy here...

Not that simple tho. They signed Mendy who is a massive wrong’un. The BBC journalist put that on Regis but the supporter seemed to be saying that he wasn’t happy with the type of players brought in. Spending big doesn’t mean spending intelligently.

If his 10th placed finish was based on togetherness of a group of young players who are more than the sum of their parts……I can see how signing some big egos and bad attitudes would ruin that.

Inexperienced in my eyes just like beale. 2 years a manager.. 30% win rate in a poor league and 1 relegation in that 2 year spell. If he is appointed it screams trouble if you ask me 👎

Would have genuinely took a chance on Challinor over this french lad. That said he probably was offered it and turned it down like everyone else.

Not disappointed and will give him a chance. Hope he succeeds.

However, if recruitment does not improve he has next to no chance.
This.

He's our 6th or 7th pick so no one expected anyone of note and whoever got the job has their hands tied with our transfer/backroom policies anyway.

Best of luck Regis, I hope you realise what you're signing up to marra.
