Referee's vote to go on strike next weekend

Is there really a problem with the way refs get spoken to by players in England (dunno about Scottish football btw so there might be there)?

When was the last time you saw a player booked, or even reprimanded for dissent? Not sure i've seen it this season...... refs couldn't give a shit, so clearly not getting abused that badly.

Plus the rugby comparison is weird (i know you didn't make this point so not having a go at you!...... totally different games.) why rugby? is refereeing any better in that sport? not sure it is tbh, and if came under the scrutiny of football, they would get crucified too.

I agree, I would love to see players given cards for acts of dissent but if they did you would get people saying 'Its a mans game etc'

As far as I am aware refs dont swear at players when the players make mistakes (although I would find it funny if they did:lol:)

The refs seem to treat players with respect, is it really to much to ask for the players to treat the refs the same

I can only assume that you have never watched Rugby Union OR Rugby League then or you wouldn't have made such a crass statement.

There is plenty on TV at the moment so take a look and then make a comparison.

The sooner football learns its lessons from Rugby regarding refereeing, the better.

The captain does the talking with the ref. If a decision goes against you you don't act like a prick, you walk away. If you swear at the ref or within earshot, you get sent off.

Would like to have microphones on the refs as well like they do in rugby.

Rugby have the help of technology though. It would help if referees were actually good. It's got to the point where they're directly infront of play and make the wrong decision. They don't even seem to know the rules themselves and they're so inconsistent it's untrue.

Andre Marriner sends off Cattermole and allows Neville to get away with a lot worse.

The thing is folks; this is not about the way refs are being spoken to in the SPL. It's about one club accusing the refs of cheating.

That has nowt to do with the way the players treat the refs

Shouldn't be missed -Just get a few waanabees off the street tell them to give someone a yellow card when they foul someone and a red card for the next foul. Thats all the modern day refs do (except Webb) . They never exercise any common sense just referee like robots.

I always rant on about this with me mates..... the problems really started with refs, when they became professional imho.... self-made experts of the game (because they have complicated the rules to such an extent to justify their salaries/jobs imho......the offside rule for example)

As soon as they became pro, they became a group of people to be shot at.... mini-celebs in their own right. Has it improved quality? has it fooook, refs made mistakes back in the day, they make them now.

My solution...... make them amatuer again...... and maybe then they would ref like a layman, so at least we as supporters would know what was going on....... rather than seeing stupid situations like the goal at liverpool, only be told that WE are wrong, and the ref was right, because of by-law 1114.2/b, para 4. lol

Yes they do but the players are sensible and no that refs make mistakes sometimes and just accept it. The quicker football players realise this the better

The problem about respecting the officals was there long before that

True....like i say though, i'm not sure there is a massive problem wth the way the players treat the refs. Or at least i don't see one....... refs have the power to take action with a yellow/red card if they see fit, and never do, so they clearly don't think they are harrassed..... otherwise they would do something about it on the pitch. Just my opinion.

They enforce the rule man, not make them. Do you think they'd be fit enough to keep up with play if they were doin a 9-5 job 5 days a week?

Fair do's, can see your point

Thing is though, it wouldnt be an issue if the players just respected the officals

rules are all about interpretation........they interpret the rules, therefore dicatate how they are applied to the game....

like i say the offside rule, a very simple rule 10 years ago.........fuck knows what it is all about now.

They did up to about 5 years ago.......

Whats that got to do with the refs:confused:

The rule has never fundamentally changed throughout time. It is the interpretation of the rule that has changed.....and become more complicated.

Rule enforcers (refs) surely must have a say on how rules are interpreted on the field. (almost by definition)? Thats what it has to do with them.

The games alot quicker now (certainly than 10 years ago) and refs made mistakes then aswell. I would also say the rules were more concise back then with less "grey areas".

Totally agree with all of the above mate.....

I guess that is my point...... refs made mistakes for free 10 years ago! lol..between them it costs the game a few million squid in salaries now.

The grey area thing.... agree with that aswell.....but football should be a simple game......nee need for grey areas imho.

I honestly don't know the off-side rule to the letter.
