Ref tonight

Can you show me a post when I say the ref had a good game and didn't no nowt wrong last night?

My point as always is these decisions are never as straightforward or obvious as folk make out?
Come to think of it, I don’t think I have ever seen a post from you saying the referee was poor and had a bad game. Every game where the referee comes under scrutiny (admittedly quite a lot) is always met with the same ‘but it is a hard job’ type of posts.

Most know it’s a hard job, but most can see that some look to be very poor at it.

Not just games where it’s Sunderland involved either, games in league one which don’t involve Sunderland and on TV show the referee to usually make a few easy decisions wrong.

It’s why I think we need to make VAR available for most leagues and teams. Most of the referees definitely need it.

I reckon he tried but couldn't reach level 7 required on the bleep test :lol:
He was a bit tubby like.

He'd have likely defended that one in the Oxford game (IIRC) recently where he had an absolute howler in the last minute regarding disallowed goals etc.

I must admit, I groaned. But that was more at a player being offside. Realistically, from the back of the RE, I've not really got a better view than a linesman up with play
These lads were adamant it was wrong. I asked them how they could tell as they were getting on my nerves moaning all the time and they mumbled about refs being shit and that was it.

Insightful stuff

I'm not denying some fans will argue anything in our favour (as your example). The majority, however, will be able to see when a ref has put in a poor performance or just generally looks like he has a plan to show he's not intimidated by a crowd

Poor but kept his cards in his pocket

Could have booked Grant early doors and how he never booked the fella for wiping Kimpi out i will never know, think it was the big issue seller (unless he did and i missed it).

Could have easily gave penalty when Flanagan leant on their forward when one on one late on though.

I’m not sure the refs are trying to show they aren’t intimated they will just make mistakes like everyone does.
You play to a decent level so what do you make of refs that in charge of your games? It’s not an easy job.

@redandwhiterob
Oxford 1-0 Bradford: Late Jamie Mackie goal seals win
This one, then?
Just a hard job? Fans being biased by saying he doesn't know what he's doing?

Or has he just fucked up but you'll still find a way to defend him?

You flatter me :eek::lol::lol:;)
I've had some very good refs tbh. Communication went a long way for some of those.

With regards to your first part, I think some of them have in the back of their mind the criticism they'll receive if they appear to favour us. "Oh he's weak on front of a big crowd... Bowed to the pressure etc. "
So they go they other way, if they took the middle ground between the two and forgot about the "occasion", they'd likely be decent

The standard of referring in this league is absolute dogshite. Nee **** is gonna tell me otherwise. I've had peterborough fans at work saying the same to me all season, so it isn't just us.

You have somebody going out to try their best in proven hard situations as you have just alluded too.

Therefore the fair way to look at things imo, when somebody is given a very difficult job and all are cheating around him is too be fair minded and think fuck me, this is becoming too hard for the human eye, all evidence points that way.

Instead you have the complete opposite of abuse, for somebody trying to achieve the impossible.

Please biased football fans.

All the evidence week in week out proves that, I am genuinely suprised people can't see that.

These threads are nearly every week, how many have come on this season saying the ref was good today?

Can't remember any, surely that is proof of the difficulty of the job?

I agree with this. But I do think diving is ridiculously obvious in this league.

Additionally the subtle things, like Oviedo playing the ball off the opposition, are going to be Marc when the ref isn't used to players being able to do it.

I would like to add, the ref in the final was very good. Kept control over the game imo

I don't think that the ref affected the result of the game. If we couldn't take the chances that we were presented with in order to win the match then a draw was a fair result.

My issue with the ref is that if he doesn't up his game someone is going to get seriously injured. He has a responsibility to police the rules and prevent thoughtless or deliberately wreckless play. Whether the offending player last night should have been sent off, yellow carded or just spoken to is up to what the ref believes happened but he didn't even acknowledge that a foul had taken place which I think was pretty much beyond any dispute.

He gave 2 fouls against Honeyman in first half which I felt were wrong but other than that I can’t think of any glaring errors.

Even blatant fouls from our players have our fans stamping their feet so I take the opinion with a large amount of salt really.

The guy that went through the back of wyke and then kicked him full in the back when he was on the floor (admittedly aiming for the ball)

The sliding tackle from behind Grigg that went through him before th ball actually arrived

We're just talking first half yeah?

Surprised to see so much discussion about the ref from last night tbh. Considering some of the absolute dogshit officiating we’ve seen this season last nights was probably one of the better ones!
