Redundancy question

I've just read on ACAS and citizens advice websites that once your given your notice for redundancy, if during your notice period (presuming that your being made to work it and not put on gardening leave) you go on the sick you have to be paid full pay even if under normal circumstances you would only be on statutory sick pay.
Found this quite surprising to be honest.
Can anyone confirm I'm reading this correctly ? 👍

It'll depend on whether your contractual notice period is higher than the statuary notice.

In general though, presuming your contractual notice period is the same as the statutory minimum, you should be fully paid for your notice period if dismissed even if you're incapable of working due to sickness.

That's the way I read it mate but i could not believe it.
And yes I've checked my contract and the notice periods are exactly the same as statutory. I read the bit about having a longer notice period than statutory would scupper that.

I worked with somebody who told the boss if I don’t get my redundancy I am going to quit……

He quit after 20 years service. If he held on another year the whole department went.
 
🤣🤣 There's 150 of us going nationally and I've never feigned sickness before so I'm not out of the door for that reason.

The company should just do the right thing and when they give us our notice put us on gardening leave.
You owe them nothing. I wouldn't feel bad. I've never been asked to work redundancy notice, too much room for damage.
 
Slightly ot but do you work in the energy industry by any chance? One of our competitors laid off the majority of their staff yesterday and our company have done the same with a few today. Worrying times

I don't mate. My mates missus is HR manager at a local company and she said whenever she has had to dish out redundancies she just let's workers leave straight away and give them their notice pay in leiu. The one time senior management insisted on the lads working their notice people were coming to blows on the shop floor when arguments erupted over who should have stayed and who should have been made redundant 🤣🤣

Yeah, it's never worth having an obviously disgruntled employee on site. Voluntary maybe I can understand. Saying that I got gardening leave the minute I accepted voluntary terms still.
