Red card?

No idea but after him being down 30 -60 seconds (and not getting back up again) the ref just blew for half time which kind of makes a bit of a mockery of adding in stoppage time at all anyway.
I said on the match thread that I reckon he blew up to allow them to just get on a sort the lad out. Looked fuckered.

Not saying that's ok like and obviously the time for stoppages should have been played.

Aye that’s what I though as well. Just seemed daft though really when they could have got him off and just added the time to the game like any injury.

To be fair to the keeper, that's a split second after Cirkin headed the ball.

Its a strange angle to punch the ball, mind

The angle is a result of him being so late to it the ball is lower than it would normally be. Once he’s committed there’s nowt he can do but the ball is in the air a fair while before he decides to go for it and by then it was too late.

If he comes for it sooner then he’s jumping above players to claim it/punch it but he’s so late to the trajectory it’s below head height by the time he gets there.

He’s not just late to Cirkin’s touch. He’s late to the entire cross.

Whether he’s expected a defender to be on the end of it then realised late in they wouldn’t get there so has came, or whether he’s just totally misjudged the flight I don’t know.

Keepers shouldn’t be allowed to do double punches below head height in crowded situations, just like outfield players shouldn’t be allowed to do kicks above chest height in crowded situations.

Epitome of endangering an opponent.

Should be a red retrospectively, but I bet it doesn't happen...
It a red but VAR is limited in the Championship and not seen right away more concern for the player health…..One could argue the keeper has a right to the ball but on close examation was late and it was a foul….

It’s a definite red. If an outfield player had been late and knocked someone out he’d have been sent off.

He went down himself having been poleaxed by his own player

If an outfield player went up for a header, was late and clashed heads would he be sent off?

Goalkeepers are legally allowed to punch the ball and therefore it's the equivalent of an outfield player attempting to head it imo.

He should have been sent off, that's the risk keepers are taking when looking to punch the ball, if they miss and connect with the player it's dangerous play.

In that case you could have keepers purposely looking to punch players knowing they could get away with it. It's a red all day.

Looks miles worse than it is.
There's no way that was deliberate,
So after playing football his whole life he is so shit at judging the flight of a ball he misses it by six feet, or he stuck one on him.
I know which one is more plausible to me

Imagine the meltdown on here if Patterson had been sent off for the same offence. It’s not a red card at all, just an unfortunate collision of two players going for the ball. I guess now every time a keeper goes to punch the ball from a set piece they’re going to be sent off?

Depends on whether or not they get the ball, or miss it and punch a player square in the face.

Just like a midfielder that piles in to a tackle on the half way line. If they win the ball cleanly that’s fine. If they miss the ball, and get a player half way up the shin, they’ll probably be sent off.

I would have understood why, that's the risk that a keeper takes when coming for the ball. You can't just smash a player in the face and it's deemed fine because they were late or didn't mean it. It was totally reckless.

I'm old school and was taught and have taught goalkeepers to jump for the ball with you free leg bent and up as high as possible to 'protect' yourself against the CF who is also going for the ball. Free kick used to always go to the keeper if any collision occurs. If the keeper kneed the forward it was the forwards fault all day 🤔

Yep. I wonder if they will look at it. Not that it matters now really, it won't help us if he's retrospectively banned. When you looked at some of the stills it looks as though he's not even looking at the ball.

I assumed he'd would add an extra minute or two onto the second half injury time, but that was only 6 minutes when I was expecting 8 or more after the lengthy stops for Cirkin and Honeyman and loads of subs.
