Red card?

No it’s not. It’s dangerous play.

“Well he was trying to get the ball” isn’t an excuse for any outfield player that goes in recklessly and gets there late. There’s no rule that exempts keepers.

So keepers aren’t allowed to punch the ball? Just incase they make connection with an opponent?

It wasn’t reckless.

Tony Mowbray hasn’t mentioned anything about it. I think if he was aggrieved he’d have said something.

It’s part and parcel of football. It’s already sanitised enough, absolutely nothing wrong with a 50/50.

It’s never a red card. He had eyes on the ball and was beat by a fraction of a second. As I said in a previous post, how many of our players wanted any action taken?
It’s dangerous play whether it was deliberate or not. You can’t punch people in the face man

Keepers are allowed to punch the ball, yes. They’re not allowed to punch people in the face.

In the same way outfield players are allowed to kick the ball - but if they fly in and miss the ball, and catch an opponent half way up the shin instead, they’re off. Whether they intended to play the ball or not.

Red all day, just because he is keeper he act make a dangerous challenge? Late, never in control, dangerous. Red card

So if two players go for a header and one gets there first and the other head butts him should he be sent off for violent conduct?
Depends on the incident. 50/50 eyes on the ball then no. If someone sprints 20 yards jumps at the opponent who is stationary and nuts him into next week then he should be sent off.

So if two players go for a ball, and one is very late and kicks them in the head knocking them out is that a red?

It wasn’t a red.
It will never be penalised as a red card.
No Sunderland player wanted it to be a red card.
The Sunderland manager didn’t want it to be a red card.

The only place I’ve seen a red card mentioned is on here.

I suggest you write to the FA.

Depends. If one runs 12 yards through a crowd of players, gets nowhere near the ball and head butts them in the face, then aye probably.

In the same way as a player mistimes a tackle and goes over the ball and breaks someone’s leg.

50/50 eyes on the ball you say.

Interesting.

Why would I do that? It’s not going to change anything.

I’m just pointing out what the rules are.

I didn’t think it was reckless. I thought it was mistimed and unintentional. If it was Patterson I’d say the same.

Accidental clashes happen, it’s part and parcel of the game. I’ve seen more headclashes that have resulted in the sort of thing that happened to Cirkin today than I have keepers punching opponents and you never see them given as reds, because there is no intent there and it’s part of the game.

Did anyone get a good look at what happened to their lad in the first half too??
This seems to have gone under the radar a bit. I did read he went off in a leg brace and an oxygen mask tho.

what’s with the “he’s off he’s off“ all about

Don’t know but there’s an unfinished sentence from the Millwall supporter towards the end of that video,

He shouts:

“Lino you cant”.

Can’t what? Breakdance? Speak German? Cook pasta?

It wasn’t very late.

It was a fraction late.

Cirkin wasn’t stationary. He was moving towards the ball.

A fraction late is still late which ever way you want to dress it up, the lad was fully KO as a result of him being late, that makes it dangerous play
