I still think you’re right. He lamps him. That was me. Tbh though I thought Cresswell had elbowed him. I haven’t seen it back though. And either way someone has caught him late with excessive force.
this place man
Eyes fully on the ball, going to punch it.
He should either use open hands, his head or stay on his line. How should a keeper come out for a ball like that then?![]()

What do you think should happen when two people go for headers, one gets the ball first then the other one nuts his head?No it's not. It's not different in the slightest.
Whether it's with your hands or feet - when you go in for a challenge, get it wrong, and endanger an opponent, its a red card.
It's no different to an outfield player going in for a challenge, missing the ball and catching someone below the knee. It's a poor challenge that puts the opponent in danger.

Not saying that going for a header is dangerous play but still a late challenge. Should it not be a foul?
Like Honeyman on Alese.
He shouldn't, if he's going to miss the ball and punch someone in the face.
Nobody says "well let's just ban outfield players from using their feet!!", when they get sent off for dangerous challenges. They just need to challenge better.
I'm saying keeper will come out trying to "catch" the ball instead of punching and still miss and connect with the player. How could you determine if that was intentional or not?No, because if the keeper catches the ball, that's not a mis-timed challenge is it?
Not the same nope. I don’t think it’s dangerous play. But it’s still a late challenge. Is that the same as a keeper coming out and swinging a punch (at the ball, the man, or both)? Really?
He doesn’t know he’s going to miss it though until someone gets there a fraction before him.
Can’t stop him from coming out but can issue punishments if it causes a foul like any other challenge.
And in this case Cirkin scored so advantage given. I wonder if Cirkin doesn't connect, would a pen be given? He doesn’t know he’s going to miss it though until someone gets there a fraction before him.

For me, it's more about the distance he's come, and the speed at which he's done it. It's no different to a defender running in and launching into a challenge.
For the other angle you can see how long it takes him to make his mind up. Half a second earlier and he’s above Cirkin catching it in the air but once he commits there’s fuck all he can do.
It’s reckless because he’s mistimed it and I doubt he’s fully in control but when he’s running out and people are running at him all with eyes on the ball there’s a chance there will be a collision.
But there’s people saying keepers should t be allowed to use their hands. They should but they should also be punished for mistimed challenges like this was.

Reckless, undue force and endangering an opponent. Definition of a red.
Aye. Exactly like the midfielder who goes in recklessly with his feet, only for the opponent to get to the ball a split second before him. The midfielder gets sent off
I know. That’s what I’ve said?
Just worried you were leaving wriggle room for a yellow![]()

Aye they do tbf. Has a similar instance happened in the prem with VAR? If Cirkin goes up and is wiped out they'd probably have a look at it.Nah they get away with it from set pieces and crosses. Said earlier if it was a through ball that bounced and Stewart (eg) got there to head it in then keeper wiped him out I reckon he would have been sent off. Keepers are always protected from crosses/freekicks etc though.
