Granted for the last number of years the success rate of our signings leaves a lot to desired, be it in the Premier League to The Championship to League 1 can often be classed as poorly thought out or a brainless scattergun approach and rightly so "but" as of now in League 1, I really can't help but think expectations are unrealistic for a lot of our signings since we've been in this division.

Let's call a spade, a spade if we're signing players from the likes of Walsall, Burton Albion, Plymouth, Forest Green etc all bundled into one side chasing promotion is never going to equal a straight forward season, a case of you get what you pay for.

Is it any real surprise our better players are the likes of Gooch (Pl experience) , McGeady (international player) , Wright (international player) , Leadbitter (huge experience in the two top divisions) , this window for me in the last few days shows a bit of intent which is great to see.

I know with the salary cap and restrictions it's not easy to manoeuvre but it was refreshing to see us go after the likes of Jordan Jones, an SPL striker (a market we should be shopping more in mind) and getting a young player in on loan from the PL.

There is still a lot of football to be played, a couple of wins in a row and we will be right up there.

We’ve missed out on a few decent players from lower leagues in that time but seemed reluctant to gamble and instead have generally gone for experience of promotion, played in championship players. We needed more of a blend and more targeted recruitment for what was actually missing- physical quick players.

Peterborough are a fantastic example of how to scout lower league players, but at the same time they won't fill their whole squad with these players all at once and their expectations are nowhere near the same as of ours.

I agree, some of our signings like Grigg, Graham etc have all failed but at the same time they lacked imagination where one was out of desperation (thanks Stewart) and another was just down to sheer unimaginative and lazy recruitment.

Prioritize signing potential game changers in key positions in the team and then supplement your squad with a few young players/loan signings.
