I would love to be proven wrong, but I fail to see why anyone would be excited about us recruiting a manager that has been found out and is probably at least 10 years past it. If we put Moyes in place it is going to closer to Howard Wilkinson's appointment than any of our recent revolving door appointments.
The policy of recruiting younger managers with less experience has managed to just keep our noses above the water. Recruiting more experienced managers who are potentially just about to drop off of the cliff like Martin O'Neill and Big Dick just about kept our noses above the water. Arguably Big Sam was the only appointment we have made in recent years that had the potential to move the club forward, and we got him very late in his career.
I just can not understand why we would appoint Moyes when his record has been poor for years. Even towards the end of his time at Everton it was looking like his approach was out of date, and his record since has been pretty poor. He has returned from Spain with very low stock. For me this would be the equivalent of signing McClaren (and I was justifiably delighted when Newcastle got him ahead of us). I think a lot of people just think Moyes would be a safe pair of hands that would keep us out of the relegation battle, and I am not convinced it is going to pan out that way. I think most of his success at Everton hinged on signing an outstanding underrated team player in Tim Cahill, and that one signing covered for a lot of inadequacies in Moyes' management style. I can not see him holding sway over our dressing room. I hope he does, but I can not see it happening.
