Records of our managers over the past 20 years

Mick McCarthy’s record stands up well considering how little he had to spend and how many of those defeats were at the arse end of 02/03 and the start of 05/06
Skewed by a 3rd and 1st place finish in the Championship.

55.5% win ratio in the Championship, and a 5.4% win ratio in the Prem.

Compare that to Keane...

63% win ratio in the Championship, and 28% in the Prem.

Or Reidy...

57% Championship, 33% in the Prem.

Also, McCarthy managed more games for us in the Championship than he did the Premier League. Both Keane and Reid took charge of more Premier League games for us than they did Championship/Division 1.

I hate Mick McCarthy and I think he absolutely fuckin shite. Even when we were good the football was soul destroying-ly bad.

Parkinson under 40% in League One was a joke
I can actually forgive Phil Parkinson, given 'the model' at the time. That really was our lowest ebb in terms of playing staff and recruitment.

I'd argue both Johnson and Ross had better squads, and both spurned their opportunities in varying ways.

I'd have still been interested to see how the end of the curtailed Covid season would have panned out under Parkinson.

The nostalgia of lifting 1-0 wins against Crewe with Andy Welsh scoring a scruffy tap in from 2 yards.

I almost recall falling asleep during last game of the promotion season V stoke at home.

Lifting, turgid football.

Look at the win percentage for almost all of them - FFS - can anyone be confident that we will get the right manager in, appointed by this shower?
This shower have only appointed two (possibly three) of the list?

They appointed the bloke who got us out of League 1. And they appointed Mowbray (who I assume you're upset about losing???)

So with all that in mind, I'm not really sure what you're getting at here?

While I think Ross should have done better, it wasn't an easy job especially on the back of two soul destroying seasons back to back. We barely had a squad to start preseason, and no scouts in place to actually recruit, which is how we ended up with Baldwin and Loovens at CB. Signed Wyke who was injured, relying on an untested maja to thankfully hit the ground running.
Wasn't helped that 5 teams or so were relentless all season so any slip up was massive. Second season he had to massively kick on and didn't. But I don't envy any manager working under Donald and Methven.
Grayson is the worst in the last decade or so, atleast he had grabben for his time as opposed to the awfulness that was Coleman as well

What Roy Keane did for our club cannot be measured by criteria like that. He gave the club back its self respect, took a team that was dead bottom and at its lowest ebb to promotion and stopped us tumbling down the leagues. Despite what followed he is a hero to me.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing, just replying to the comment that his record was good given how much of his Safc tenure was in the Prem.

But actually, as you say, his achievements in the Championship season were his most impressive with us.

Skewed by what league we are in though...
This
Grayson really was utter shite wasn't he?

He was but I do feel the stuff that was going on and festering at the club at the time had an impact on that. The job was definitely too big for him bit it was an absolute shit show.

I mean I still think Jason Steele is shit and was shit at Blackburn, but he's proving he was nowhere near as bad as he was made to look at that time. Lee Camp was absolutely hopeless as well, but he went on to play two more full seasons in the Championship.

It was an absolute shitshow with negligence at the top stemming right through the club.
