Reasons to keep Steve Bruce as manager thread

His positive relationships with top managers like Wenger and Ferguson. His undoubted ability to find good foreign talent. His persuasive patter that could get better players to join us. Errr.....that's it.

Is this really undoubted at Sunderland? PDS, Angeleri and Riveros are the un-heard of players he has signed from abroad and all three have been huge flops.

I'm assuming you mean unknown and from outside of europe like the ones he signed at Wigan.

So you're saying that Ellis Short has kept Bruce barefoot & that's why he's failed as a manager? Are you masterminding a 'Short out!' campaign? Was Bent sold from underneath Bruce and against his will?

I'm not having any of that. Bruce has failed to put a team together & he's had enough money to do so-far more money than the manager of our visitors today was given, when he was at the helm at the SoL!

A politicians answer to being asked something completely different. Turn it around and asked another question back instead of answer... good tactic but i'm not gonna get involved.

You said he's a money pit - the net spend says other wise... that's all I corrected you on sir.

That net spend thing isn't a valid argument either. We are several players light compared to what we had when he joined. People can say the squad is stronger etc but it obviously isn't strong enough to cope with the missing players. It certainly isn't valid to say his net spend is low and use injuries as an excuse for performance.

I still can't believe that a good manager couldn't have got some use in the first team from players like McCartney, Healy and Reid. That's all money we spent that is now written off and while they weren't world beaters it's wasted resources which his fans exault him for.

He is a money pit; he's spent a lot of money to little effect. I accept he might not have been given as much as he wanted (& that he may even have been forced to sell Bent & others including Cana) but over his two seasons he hasn't done the business as a manger. So my reaction is not a 'kneejerk' one as you suggested. That, sir, is my point.

I agree he hasn't done the Business over the two seasons, this season has been a disaster. Top 10 was minimum requirement and we've failed.... as i said you can criticise him for many this things.... but being a money pit is not one of those things..

.yes he's spent money but it's been more of a reshuffling job...like daglish (sp) at pool. yes he spent 55 million on Suarez and Caroll. Would you call him a money pit? No. Why? Because he sold torres for 50 million... a balancing act.

Bruce has done the same... selling Whitehead, Collins, Reid, Murphy, Stokes, Jones, Leadbitter, Edwards....all these sales were used to generate future purchases...

.. Quinn has come out before and said that Short likes loans and he also came out before and said that certain sales had to take place before we could sign Bent....

... big difference between being a money pit and balancing the books while still making the team better......

...calling him a money pit to me was devoid of logic hence why i claimed it was knee jerking after a shit result.

Anyway i gotta go... enjoy your weekend.

Yes, that's what I mean Chris. Not sure PDS was such a flop (but he's made for latin football) and the jury is out on Angeleri. Riveros showed he's not up to it today.

 OK, he has balanced the books. I'm sure your Maths is correct. In so doing he's weakened & unbalanced his team. I don't think £50 million on Suarez & AC is a bad buy but Bruce's total net spend has been largely wasted. And it was a lot of money. Whether it's your money, the boss' money, money incoming or a lottery win isn't really relevant for me. The point is Bruce has wasted it. Hence my suggeting he's a money pit.

don't know why everyone wants rid myself, were doing well, we'll have good and bad years as the club we are, we do need to improve in the cup though.

Bruce isn't going to get sacked nor should he be and the fact it upsets some of you idiots so much makes my day.

Our best year this decade was winning the CCC Championship. Chelski away apart, it's been one long struggle under Bruce & in the end it looks like we only just squeezed past the winning post. If we'd had some good years under Bruce I could understand your point but haway man! I'm still not over Halloween, never mind Brucie's annual blip-fest.

Good point. I don't know how I feel about keeping him around another season though. Really conflicted on this.

It upsets me when people like this damage our club :-(

what irritates me is the injuries, and bent going in the way he did. other than that you can blame Bruce for losing to west ham in the cup, and assuming meyler could replace cana despite his injury, what else can you blame him for?
