No - one needs a reality check soft lad
The only issue is we don’t want some other muppet like fuckin Parky
Quite a big decision in the club moving forward

Soft?

I'd call it objective

I think it is as you said about spending time outside the region and getting a third person perspective that Sunderland really are nothing special in the grand scheme of things. Just like 95% of football clubs mean very very little to anyone other than their own supporters.

We have historical success but nothing real right now and it's been like that for quite a long time.

Johnson's announcement obviously is not going to cause any parties but I don't see the point in people getting so angry about it.

Surely the entire point in having a head coach appointed by a sporting director is that you can fire the coach and hire a new one who fits the same style at speed if things are not going well.

Southampton famously had a list of successors for the head coach role while their current ones were in place.

Leeds were getting pretty much that in League 1.
They were still out of the premier league for 12 years.
Having more fans doesn't make you successful.
Leeds never averaged 30 K in league one
best was around 26 k
Get your facts right

If you went to any team in a similar position to ours right now.....

i think you'd find most fans of a club in our position, having been relegated twice in humilating fashion, in the worst position in our ~150 year history you'd probably find people pretty f***ing hacked off tbh

we are a 3rd division club
we are a team that isn't even in the play off positions of the 3rd division

We are a big club in terms of support and infrastructure, but we are still a 3rd division club

that is our reality and our starting point.

If you went to any team in a similar position to ours right now, and said there's a new long term football infrastructure being put in place, a new manager and new (rather rich) investors coming in, as a fan of that club you would be very positive.

The sooner people grasp the situation the better.
I dont think 90 per cent of us need a reality check to be fair

4000 different is 'pretty much that'

Leeds are in the Premier League by the way now
I'm sure they will happily concede that 4000 to us
It’s not pretty much that you fkin cheb
They’ve never averaged more than 40 K in their entire history
put that in your yorkie pipe & shove it where the sun don’t shine
Twat

Like i said they're in the Premier League and we are in League One.
But you seem happier because we got 4k higher average league attendance in League One
Like i said about mentality in the OP...

So because we are a 3rd division club, we have to have zero ambition? You need the reality check of the current owners and what they are doing to the club!

i've lived abroad for 5 years.
14000 mile round trip is a long way to go to watch a football match.
Although i did do a 12000 mile round trip for a game once

And i was born in Sunderland, so yes: WE

Not saying that.

Need a realistic plan though to move forward as a mid table League One club, with no matchday revenue in the middle of a pandemic

You will never get a realistic plan with the current owners.....We are steadily going backwards, not forward. The incoming manager, makes no sense of getting out of this league!

I noticed he referred to the 'Ownership group' in the interview.

I may be wrong, but those seem very carefully chosen words indicating that the takeover is probably done and just waiting EFL ratification.

The fact that we have made this the first appointment makes total sense.

We can't invest in players due to the wage cap, so the obvious next financial investment is going to be in structures, data and relevant staff to help deliver a more sustainable and successful business model for the future via the academy.

For me this is huge forward step from where we have been of late.

In regards to the new manager i have no idea as he hasn't been appointed yet.

When he does get appointed however, i'd assume it's because he has bought into this new model and everything that goes with it.

That will create cohesion not to mention showing U23, youth players and young talent that we are trying to entice that there will now be a pathway to first team football if they are good enough.
