Rashford Dropped

Rashford is only half the player when starting out on the right, he rarely plays well there which would mean Foden starting there when he also looks better on the left.
Rashford can be disappointed but this team looks better balanced.

I'd play Rashford but have no problem with Saka/Foden. My concern with his selections is when he picks three CMs and no number 10. Southgate weaknesses are his cautious nature and his inability to react within games - he got it right against Wales but wrong against Italy.
I like Saka. No way I would have dropped Rashford though. Personally think there’s room in that team for Foden Rashford and Saka. Foden as the No.10.

This

Whatever he does works extremely well
I was listening to Robbie Savage after the Wales game and he was saying 'why can't England win the World Cup, why are England fans so negative'. Then he said 'England should have won the Euro's' and, for me, that is bang on. We should have beaten an average Italian team, who have not even qualified for these World Cup. In that final Southgate was indecisive at the crucial moment. England now often win U17, U19 etc, tournaments and we now develop excellent players who all play champions league. There is an argument that, assuming we don't win this WC that Southgate has under achieved regardless of getting to a SF and a final. We have only won one torunament ever and the last one was our best chance ever. And, yes.........I know Robbie Savage is a plonker.

Nah. Been lucky as anything imo.

Losing to Croatia and then to an Italy that couldn't even qualify for this wc. Nah.

Plus, the players are great. They win in spite of the shit management

Ah well. Well if you’re not willing to give him credit for his management ability, I’ll invoke the give me a lucky general principle

England may not have that best first XI but we arguably have the best bench so to win this World Cup is going to need the whole squad. Happy for Saka to start then Rashford to come on in the second half.

That is exactly my point - Southgate won't play a number 10 because he wants a more solid, compact midfield 3. Yet again he sets us up cautiously.

I think that's a really good point, We saw Brazil's second string getting beaten by Cameroon - they all, to a man, looked so ordinary.

It’s not our fault who makes it to the later stages is it? That’s down to these super teams not being good enough to get there.

What has he changed that makes you think he is over concentrating on the the other side?
I think if we get through this the winner of England v France will win the World Cup.

I don’t think the line up is that cautious. Bellingham will have license to get forward and the two lads out wide have bags full of creativity.

How would we set up to play with someone behind Kane?

There is definitely room for a more attack minded player. Kane drops too deep and when Mount plays he just doesn’t get beyond Kane. That midfield today will be packed when Kane drops in there and who’s going to get beyond Kane?

Bellingham, Saka and to some degree Foden.

Bellingham scored a goal from a run into the box against Iran and should have scored from a late run into the box late on against Wales. It's Saka's natural game to run in beyond the striker like he does with Jesus dropping in deep for Arsenal. Foden's averaging a goal every other game for City (with a few sub appearances included in that) this season which is a pretty dramatic increase on any other year he's had because he's playing high and wide for City and learning to at times get beyond the defence rather than constantly coming deep and wanting the ball to feet every time.

Tough draw though as Spain/Argentina in the Semis. Brazil have the easier half.

But if we can beat France, Spain and Brazil we will deserve it.

It’s a very open World Cup. There’s a few that stand a chance. Us being one if we get through this
