Rank Sunderland managers

I had a lot of time for Mick. We could've been his success story, but it just wasn't to be. It certainly wasn't all his fault.

I had alot of time for Mick too. One of the good people in football. Just the financial situation and the state of the squad was too much. The only thing he could of done better he admitted he wasn't aware of Rory Delap's long throw abilities which took Stoke canny far.

Yeah, I never understood how he missed that!

Was delap in during Mick’s time?
He took over when we were at the lowest we'd ever been. Relegated to the third division for the first time after a catastrophic season, he took us straight back up as champions and stabilised us in the 2nd division. He was treated very badly by the club who sacked him based on a poll.
He was a straight talking, honest, humble bloke who got a tune out of the lads. It wasn't always great in div 2, but he didn't deserve to be peddled, certainly not like that.

Did fans want him out at the time?

The GK thing with the limited resources we had was ludicrous too.

All been mentioned i reckon, Jimmy Adamson never inspired me particularly, did nowt, blamed all and sundry and gave me the jibbers.

Can you rank your top 5 managers you have seen in your time as a Sunderland fan. Try not to concentrate too much on how it ended but the good times you had as a fan, performance during, sense of hope etc. My first one I remember was Peter and nothing beats those early years.

1. Peter Reid - first manager I remember and felt like winning games was the norm as a young lad
2. Roy Keane - first years of big drinking going to away games during that promotion season
3. Poyet - cup final, like his way of playing and league cup finals don’t come along often
4. Mowbray- not enjoyed watching the lads play as much in such a long time
5. Controversial Bruce - similarly for the early drinking days but thought we had a chance of competing in the top level with decent transfers (unfortunately didn’t get anywhere)
Would agree with most of this but swap places for Keane and Poyet and Alex Neil would be fifth. Did an important job and I’m personally not bothered about the situation around him leaving.

He did OK with a big budget in the Championship. If you've met him in real life it's hard to like him.

Every single Sunderland related player or manager I've met has been awesome, Keane has major insecurity issues.
Quick question pal, based on observations since I joined this board - if you were made of chocolate, would you eat yourself?
