Rank Sunderland managers

Can you rank your top 5 managers you have seen in your time as a Sunderland fan. Try not to concentrate too much on how it ended but the good times you had as a fan, performance during, sense of hope etc. My first one I remember was Peter and nothing beats those early years.

1. Peter Reid - first manager I remember and felt like winning games was the norm as a young lad
2. Roy Keane - first years of big drinking going to away games during that promotion season
3. Poyet - cup final, like his way of playing and league cup finals don’t come along often
4. Mowbray- not enjoyed watching the lads play as much in such a long time
5. Controversial Bruce - similarly for the early drinking days but thought we had a chance of competing in the top level with decent transfers (unfortunately didn’t get anywhere)

I thought this was going to be a thread about Greyson, Johnson, and Parkinson
Not sure I could rank that 😅 think it is too early for me to put Neil in there but after years of Wembley disappointment that play off final was one of my favourite days and he is part of my Mowbray selection

Swap Bruce for Denis Smith.
Bruce left a very bitter taste...

Top 3 are certainly;

Reid
Big Sam
Keane

After that it's up in the air, Bruce got us our best finish outside Reid but don't feel like it was him that really acheived it as he then dismantled that great team and made a shite one.
Mick Mac whilst is remembered for his PL stint, gets overlooked for the great championship manager he is/was.
Neil and Mowbray about even for me.
Poyet, had a great idea for how we should play but was shite at actually getting it to work.

Completely forgot about big Sam when listing, definitely enjoyed those last few months and had a sense of hope that he would have a good second season. What could have been, that Iceland game worse for us Sunderland fans than anyone else except Roy.

Had the fans buzzing, man! Had the players running through brick walls for the shirt. His appointment made news all around the globe and had people talking about SAFC.
It ended on a sour note, but they were very exciting times.
He did OK with a big budget in the Championship. If you've met him in real life it's hard to like him.

Every single Sunderland related player or manager I've met has been awesome, Keane has major insecurity issues.

Unfortunately or fortunately I’m too young to remember Denis. Why did you enjoy his time?
He took over when we were at the lowest we'd ever been. Relegated to the third division for the first time after a catastrophic season, he took us straight back up as champions and stabilised us in the 2nd division. He was treated very badly by the club who sacked him based on a poll.
He was a straight talking, honest, humble bloke who got a tune out of the lads. It wasn't always great in div 2, but he didn't deserve to be peddled, certainly not like that.

Mick McCarthy deserves a special shout out. The team he got promoted with was absolutely dire. The humiliation which occured in the Prem means nowt compared to the money getting us promoted whilst the club was in money troubles meanwhile.

That team was poor like Gary and Steve centre back partnership winning the league

I had a lot of time for Mick. We could've been his success story, but it just wasn't to be. It certainly wasn't all his fault.
