Random Stuff In Your House

When the old fella next door to me got took into care his wife cleared the shed out. She gave me two tool boxes and I felt a bit crap saying no, so took them and chucked them in my shed without looking. Last summer I was tidying the shed and decided to go through them. There was a few things that were canny dated, a corded electronic screwdriver, window latches from wooden frames still in the packets, some tuning forks and loads of old hand tools that were in really good nick (screwdrivers with old wooden handles). The tools are solid and I've kept them as they'll last years more yet.
i still use some of my dad's old tools. still going strong and built to last.
when the father in law died last year i was asked to look through his collection of tools and see if i wanted anything. there was some really interesting items including an old smoothing plane he made himself when he started his career as a joiner in 1946. it shined up a treat and i have it on show in the garage with a load of other bits and bobs.

I've got a couple of hammers that me Dad took from the pit when it closed. They've got the name 'Wilffy Williams' carved in the handle. They'd either been down there after Wilf had gone, of me Fatha had been a bit light fingered.

I once worked for a few months in junk removal, out in British Columbia. One of the common jobs we had was house clearances after people died, if the family couldn't or wouldn't do it themselves. The amount of stuff that people accumulate across their lives is absolutely staggering.

Perhaps more staggering is how useless the vast majority of the stuff was, and how quickly it just went to the tip.

I used to taxidermise dead animals,my mam threw my specimens out when I left home,I am a minimalist apart from that,I don’t keep clutter but I keep my eyes open for a Jivaro tsantsa, always wanted a perfect one and will pay the price, but my good lady isn’t so keen.
