RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

Years ago I used to work in Newcastle and was seeing a mental lass from Killingworth. I had survived another night at her place and was driving into Newcastle and arrived at the roundabout in Jesmond where the coast road enters Newcastle. As I approached the roundabout a red Ford Fiesta stalled on the roundabout blocking the exit road from the roundabout into Newcastle. The driver was a young lass and I watched her for about fifteen seconds getting frustrated and upset as she tried to start the car. This was the rush hour and people started honking their horns and she looked like she was about to burst into tears, so I hopped out of my car and went to help her. I told her to get out and I would see if I could start it: she told me it was her mam's car and she'd never driven it before. As I got into her car I saw straightaway what the problem was: she had the choke full out and had flooded the engine. I pushed the choke back in, floored the accelarator and span the engine up. After a few seconds the engine burst into life and I got out of the car, telling her to only use the choke to start a cold engine. She thanked me and got in her car and drove off.

I felt like quite a knight in shining armour, but really I was a knight in a Ford Escort 1.4L .

It was a picture on IG, the little girl had stuck coloured crate paper to the wall as a Christmas tree as they didn't have the space/cash for a tree. I was out picking out our tree with my two young kids and it broke my heart. The Christmas spirit.
Cannit afford a tree and she's posting pictures from her smart phone onto Instagram? You've been diddled Ross lad. ;)

Coming back from a concert at the SOL a few year back I was walking down Newcastle Road on crutches to try and get to the Grange before ringing a taxi back to Shields.

A taxi pulls up next to me about opposite where the baths were. Driver leans out and said am I the disabled lad who ordered a taxi from the SOL, I said no, he asked where I was going and I said Shields. He said jump in if you like, I've got a fair to there now.

Jumped in front and there was a young lass, about 13/14 in back in tears. Driver said while he was waiting for the disabled job from SOL he seen her standing there on her on own in tears. He asked her what was wrong and she explained she had lost her mates and didn't know how to get home and hence he offered her a lift home.

We dropped the lass off at her home and the lasses Dad came out and thanked the taxi driver and gave him a wad of cash. Taxi gets to my house, I ask how much mate. He replies, nothing he had taken enough money off the lasses Dad.

I remember walking up the path to the front door thinking what the fuck has just happened??

seen this thread earlier and decided i'd join in on my lunch break. Came across a Bangladeshi fella who was very confused at the metro. He was trying to pay for a metro using a free bus pass from the uni using one of the pop card scanners. I took him to the ticket machine, paid for his ticket and pointed him in the right direction.

Go me.

Our old Allegro broke down just off Lindisfarne roundabout. Where the A19 goes over and down to the TT. Cop helps me push it to the kirb, and a bloke with his family stopped and gave me a lift home. Said similar had happened to him and someone helped him. Top bloke.

Woman was outside our house for about 20 minutes messing about with her E-bike. Went over, chain was off. Struggled like hell to get it back on, then sussed that i was doing it wrong. Got it back on and off she tootled.

Bloke was walking past my house pushing his bike with a flat tyre, and walking in his socks. I said, You got far to go ? Washington (2-ish miles) he said. Chucked his bike into the back of the car and dropped him at his house.

Not quite a random act of kindness, but found £40 on the metro and handed it in. I waited 3 months and was able to claim it.
One thing I have noticed is that in the NE people will put their daysaver metro tickets on the machines when finished with them.

This is true. Major fault in the payment system, but Mrs R has benefitted a few times.
Almost forgot. Put a load of shelves up for the blind society FOC few years back.

This old bloke in some kind of E reg Ford Ghia or something broke down in the Arnison Car Park so me and my pal gave him a push so he could bump it. Then his wife winds the window down after its started and offers us one of those boiled sweets in icing sugar that come in those round metal tubs.

Must have been 75-80 the pair of them, made me feel good anyhow.

Was at a gig last night and there was this couple celebrating the lads birthday so bought them a round cause i was pissed and they seemed happy.

I was once at a Wedding night do, outside smoking (back in the day when I did) - the bride came out and told me she needed 'a big burp' - she was pissed - she started puking - I held her hair out of the way while she was sick - she sent me a thankyou card a few days later :)

Took my lad for a walk to the shop. He is 4 and autistic and whilst he likes being outside that's no mean feat. I promised him an ice cream and a drink when we got there. When we arrived he chose what he wanted and as I went to pay I remembered I had gotten a new phone and my card wasn't registered. I couldn't pay - this would end terribly. The lovely lady behind the counter pulled her own purse out of her pocket and paid for it. I drove back later with a bottle of wine and some chocolates but I was quite touched.

Remember a few year I had been finished from a job of ten year. Due to wife poorly with depression and my new born son very poorly.

Did not have two tenners to rub together had to sell a car and was struggling bad.

Anyway went to pick wife up one night and called to shop. Found a purse whilst putting bairn in car seat.

Opened and it was chocker. All credit cards bank cards around five hundred In notes. Picked the wife up and got a dress from drivers license. Knocked on door asked for said wife. She didn’t even realise she had lost it and could not believe I had brought it back. She gave bairn a tenner. I felt good.

Money would of been helpful but glad I done right thing.

A few years but I’ll never forget this,

years ago oasis played loch lomand and five of us went up in car and found a campsite nearby where we pitched tent before gig next day.
after pitching tent we needed to find a shop so we all jumped back in car and took off. Apart from driver we’d been drinking all day so we’re pissed and acting daft in car shouting faster faster etc as we drove around country lanes.
sure enough, to our regret, our mate driving wrapped the car putting it straight through a dry stone wall. The car was totalled and whilst we fortunately weren’t badly hurt we were a bit shaken up with a few cuts etc.
those days we didn’t have mobiles so we sat there a bit shaken until a car drove past. Shortly after a car pulled up and rang police and ambulance then got off.
not long after another car pulled up with a couple in their 60’s who stopped to see how we were. We told them about why we were here and what happened so They offered us a lift and a trip to their house for some tea etc. They lived near Loch lomand but were from washington originally and were mega friendly and caring. Me and my mate decided we didn’t need hospital so jumped in and they drove us off to their home. Once there they cracked on with the full works of tea, fire on, kettle on and a bit of whiskey to calm the nerves etc.
once sorted he dropped us back at the campsite wishing us well.
when he dropped us off, this absolute saint goes to the local hospital finds my 3 mates, waits for them to be discharged after being checked over then takes them home for another round of tea, kettle on, whiskey before then taking them back to campsite also. What a f***ing hero.
Next morning, we wake up and next thing we know, here’s the angel himself turning up at the campsite with a van he’s borrowed off his mate so he can give us a lift to the gig. Being young and daft with no car we didn’t think about how we’d get to the gig from some remote campsite but our knight in shining armour had it all covered. He’d only gone and borrowed a van to fit us all in and off he took us to the gig.
a massive regret of mine is that I didn’t get his details, just their names to thank them properly but you don’t think like that when you’re 19.

on the very slim chance you’re reading this. Peter and Avril Anderson, you’re kindness that weekend will never be forgotten
