Got to agree. Ainsworth would be a mistake, imo. At least Phillips would create a buzz, even if he ultimately failed!

He was desperate to get away.

That desperate that when the goals were flying in and bigger clubs were interested, he turned them down.

Stupid on his part really, but clearly a loyal fella who felt he owed something to the club that made him.

When he did leave, he owed us nothing - he was a big part in getting us promoted and a big part in us competing in the top flight - he'd done his bit and then some.

'Dunno what some people wanted from him really, probably to buy a house in Sunderland and retrain as a social worker or charity worker saving the people of Sunderland.
