I always go up to them and ask them what their favourite Ramones album is
most say “the best of the Ramones” and then punch me in the face

Because Primark sell Ramones T-shirts but not Upstarts/UK Subs T-shirts.

If you buy a Ramones t shirt now it includes guidance notes so if someone asks if you actually like the band you reply with:
"Joey was my favourite and Rocket to Russia is the best album"

I’m wearing a Ramones T-shirt today. I do listen to them though.
I got talking to one of the fellas in Hotrats one day around 2005. He was telling me he'd had some spice-boy types in, asking for "Ram-Ones" t-shirts. If I remember, I'm sure some z-lister was snapped wearing one at that time, and they became popular amongst the uneducated as a result.

Tbf I saw someone on a teams call with a Clash t shirt on (woman) and she didnt like the band or know much about them.
Since Primark and tesco sell music t shirts now it's probably more common.
