Racism in animals

The Ryton and Stargate am dram society are going to raise awareness of animal racism with a show of interpretative dance to a backdrop of native Ugandan folk music.

My last dog (RIP) was petrified of black people. When I lived in my old house, there was a black family at the end of my road with four young children, lovely kids, and we used to pass their house nearly every day as it was on the way to the fields where we usually went for our walks.

If the kids were playing out, they loved to come over and stroke her but she was terrified. At first I thought it was a one off but she backed away from every black person we walked past.

We had her from being a puppy so I don't think it was down to any particular reason, they just scared her.

Your dog could sense the racism in you when in the presence of black people and it acted out it's owners prejudice.

One of my dogs is scared of random people & barks at them.
Sometimes beards, sometimes high-viz jackets, sometimes kids who make fast movements (so kids), sometimes just odd looking people. But not all the time.
We also had her from a pup so she hasn't had bad experiences but came from an isolated farm without kids or much going on and she missed a lot of socialisation during lockdown.
Don't see many ethnic minorities near where we live. Think I'll have to keep an eye out when we do as I bet she'll be barking at them.
