Race across the world

That place in Brazil near the end , Rio grande ? Looked class, like Thailand

Ilhe Grande. I've been.
They all sound good to me! We had two weeks in Texas and New York blown out in March by the virus so have a healthy chunk of BA vouchers to use on long haul when this eventually quiets down. Temporarily or otherwise. South America is the only continent neither of us have been to.

Go to Rio, it's class.

I absolutely adored my time there . From the spectacular scenery, the people, the sheer emptiness to the crowds. Wish I could have stayed longer. (Did four months, so have experience of those overnight buses too. Sad when you see the ones that have gone over a mountain edge too.)

The people are my favourite thing about South America. My general experience has always been that I prefer those from the Spanish speaking countries to those from Brazil. Don't think I've ever met anyone from Guyana, French Guiana or Suriname so can't really comment on them. Guyana looks excellent, assuming you don't base your thoughts on it purely on the Jim Jones massacre.

mrs really fancies rio but I’ve always been put off tbh -did you find it aggy at all?

Nah it was sound. The only place that was a bit sketchy was around Lapa after midnight, but easily avoided by heading off as that 10th caipirinha does you in. Never felt on edge at all at any other point and we were there for a week in the Catete area.

Apparently the back streets of Copacabana were a bit muggy but again, through the day it was no bother and we never felt unsafe. That's a shit area anyway imo. See the beach, kick a football and move on.

How come you hardly ever see them spending money on food?
And how many sets of clothes have the brought with them, how they getting them washed?
I don't really want to see them eat breakfast dinner tea and snacks. It showed them drink some booze on the bus yesterday.

Not maybe seeing them eating, but talking about their budget and prioritising things
I went inter-railing in the 80's and was away for 6 weeks - took £250 so I learnt a bit about prioritising.

Copacabana was the same 20+ years ago. Back streets could be dodgy after dark. Like you say, see the beach, maybe have a look at the fort and move on. It trades on its name really.

There are always hotel laundry facilities in bigger locations or you can ask where there's a laundry if at a back packer's lodge. Out of the way, you just rotate your clothes and if possible, hang them up so they have a chance to air. Your underwear you can do yourself in hand basins.

In the case of Race across the World, it's clear they're not paying for the hotel at the check-in locations (or if there's medical need such as the lad having the seizure) and they most definitely will have full laundry factilities available. So every few days, they are getting the bulk laundry done for free.

The husband and wife team, I just hope the hideous yellow dress she keeps appearing in at check-ins I mentioned above gets lost in the laundry and she has to whinge about it like we've all had to do with laundry when travelling at some time.

No doubt. It looks like they've got way too much luggage to me. I'd be going with a bag half the size of that. Must be a right pain in the arse to lug those massive bags around with you everywhere. It's not like they're carrying camping kit or anything.

After a few weeks the permanent salt/sweat stains in the armpits of your t-shirt no matter how many times you wash them wouldn't make good TV 👕😂

Agreed, I'd certainly be carrying less. You can rotate three sets of clothes if you put your mind to it and buy items like T-Shirts if you really need them. The stains don't show if you avoid white or really light colours.
I love that song 🙄

Each to their own I guess.

We would occasionally use laundries en route, the owners would tie individual pieces of thread onto all your clothes so you would get the right laundry back at the end. Eg I got mauve and green, someone else would get mauve and pink. I still have a cardigan with two bits of wool tied round the label.

It’s like most British tv - very well done but by god when you are involved it takes ages and you have no idea what’s going on. All of a sudden a light goes on there’s some shouting then light off and loads of people move somewhere else and so it goes on for hours and hours.

Nee one would go to a donkey sanctuary during a race - imagine Lewis Hamilton leading the British GP then stopping to go brass rubbing at a local church before returning to find quel surprise - someone else is in the lead now!!!
You been watching auf wiedersehen pet?

Am enjoying it but its pretty obvious that someone is told to go sight seeing each week as they are all taking it in turns!
