Quotas for coloured coaches...

Do these people really think that every football club/owner are racist ? To imply that just becuse of your colour of your skin you won't get a job in football is very wrong and if I was an owner of a club I would really take umbrage with it.

This just avoids the point lol
Is it? If somebody is just too lazy to try, that isn't racism, it's just somebody being rewarded for going out and trying, and somebody else not being rewarded for sitting on his or her arse.

Using the stats in the metro article posted earlier, the percentage of black players who take their badges and go on to become coaches in the FL is probably very similar to the number of white coaches (when you factor in the number of appointments from overseas who are preventing both sets of coaches from getting jobs). I would love to know what the actual stats for white coaches are, because it's difficult to have an truly informed opinion without them.

But while I agree that the perception that there is racism certainly exists, and it is probably discouraging some people from applying, if you don't get qualified and don't apply, you cant expect to get a job over somebody who has done both

Exactly. The question to be asked of black footballers is whether they are bothered about becoming managers. The answer to that question may be quite surprising.

Pretty much yes. Maybe not at individual clubs, but across football there is.

And your evidence for this is what?

They do this in South Africa for the rugby and cricket teams.

25% of the team must be black or coloured, regardless of merit. If the national teams do not comply, the government strips them of their colours. Thus the reason why many white South Africans ply their trade in Western Europe and play for his/hers adopted national team.

They want to change the quota to 75% black and/or coloured.

Wish everyone was colour blind.

The lack of managers in management positions. Maybe some don't want to manage, equally Hansen didn't
If you went to Margaret Byrne and Ellis Short and accused them of being racist because they had not appointed a black manager you would be on extremely dodgy ground and I'm sure they would point blank deny the accusation. In fact I'm sure they would be offended.

If there are hundreds of black coaches at say youth level then people may have a point but do we know how many coaches there is at that level?

I'll say again - maybe they are just not interested in becoming football managers.

As I've said before where will it end, 20% women coaches, 20% people with disabilities. In my book any owner gets a manager/coach in because he will better the team, not because he will fit a quota

Aye Walcott, Lennon, Wright Phillips, Gibbs, Chamberlain are all massive physical specimens.

And Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce and Tony Adams are highly intelligent men, overcoming their physical shortcomings.

A very sweeping generalisation? You think?!

Those you mentioned are all fast as fuck. Some of the quickest in the league. Walcott, Lennon and SWP would be in the lower leagues if it was all down to ability rather than pace.

I'm not accusing anyone.

The fact is that there are a handful of black managers, now and in the past.

The cause of this is? Probably (note I said probably), lack of opportunity (either at the top level of lower level) or perception of lack of opportunity

Unfortunately the stats don't lie.

"They are not interested" is a bit insulting as well. They don't all have the same opinion you know?

You said people are "discouraged" from coaching, is that your opinion or based on fact?
What is a likely career path for a black player ending a career in the lower divisions? Do you and omega think they are aspiring to get into macdonalds or become a bricky?

What stats?

Also how ydo you know that "they are not interested" is a bit insulting? Has anyone asked black footballers about this subject?

the first thing that should happen is that someone asks them and also looks at the stats at say youth level. If there are just say 50 black coaches at youth level then maybe the first thing that should happen is to encourage black footballers to apply for coaching jobs at all level. You cant appoint people if they arent there to appoint. Is the pool of black coaches to chose from massive or small? I dont know and I'm not sure anyone does.
