Deliberate handball.
Theres a case to say it should be a red.
Deliberate handball.
Theres a case to say it should be a red.
I read a small article on it earlier somewhere.
'A goalkeeper handling the ball in his own penalty area is never a direct free-kick or penalty, whether from a backpass, catching a cross or making a save. (As we all very well know.) There is separate reference made to goalkeepers handling backpasses. The penalty for this infraction is an indirect free-kick to the opponents at the place of the infraction. However, Law 12 also specifically says that a red card cannot be given to a goalkeeper for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity by handling the ball in his own penalty area.'
nothing wastes more time than indirect free kick from 12 yardsBollocks, the back pass rule was to stop time wasting, not for things like this.

The backpass rule wasn't brought in to stop things like this, it was meant to stop teams time wasting by passing back to the keeper constantly.

No it wasn't, a keeper can't be punished for deliberate handball in his own box according to the laws of the game.
He committed a technical foul, same as offside.
Look up the reasons that the back pass rule was brought in, this scenario was not one of them.
I know the rule.
But I'm challenging them. I think they should change.
Obviously rules are rules and the ref should have implemented them yesterday (questionable whether he did with the yellow card) - however at the point he catches the ball he is deliberately breaking the rules of the game just like a defender on the line catching the ball. Therefore for me next season this rule needs fixing.

Idiot
And sending people off for handballs was to stop players cheating on the line.
Which is what Mig did
I think its crazy we basically cheated Everton out of a goal and we're pissing and whinging about a yellow card for it!
I understand the rules of the game and I know it would be impossible for the ref to give Mig a red given the rules. But, fuck me, the rule has to change. If a keeper deliberately handles it then he has to go.
Fuck off.
SMB disease this f***ing thread. Someone comes on and tries to make a different point in quite a polite way and you get f***ing wankers with these one liner shit comments.
Do you tell complete strangers they are idiots to their face when they're chatting football? Or just online where I cant put a glass through your face?
Cant argue with your assertion that you feel the rule needs to change but reflect on why the backpass rule was introduced. And sending people off for handballs was to stop players cheating on the line.

Wow.
Rise above it man. Threatening or even insinuating that you are going to glass someone is poor form.Am I wrong though?
If someone goes around calling strangers idiots how long will it take till someone cracks them?
Is it too much to ask to be polite even when that threat is removed?

IIRC this was after Italia 90 which was one of the most boring world cups in history when on average there must have been about 20 backpasses per game, particularly when the hosts were playing.
I'll be interested too see why Mignolet was booked because the club must surely have a case to have it rescinded.
This of course has absolutely nothing to do with "denying anyone a goal scoring opportunity" and TBH how can a goalie be booked for handling the ball inside his own penalty area?![]()

Difference between penalising and booking goalies. I might have this wrong but do goalies automatically get booked for handling a back pass inside their own area? As far as I'm aware they dont.I dont understand your last statement "how can a goalie be booked for handling the ball inside his own penalty area?
I mean couldnt we have equally said "how can a goalie be penalised for handling the ball inside his own penalty area?"....but we do penalise them. Once a pass back is made the box becomes irrelevant in what the goalkeeper can and can't do under the law.
Nee bother; just move on and forget about it.
