Question for the referees on here

Re: Backpasses

The backpass rule wasn't brought in to stop things like this, it was meant to stop teams time wasting by passing back to the keeper constantly.

Re: Backpasses

apparently it is deliberate hand ball, which is a mandatory booking (mandatory as in when a Ref decides to) technically he could have been sent off as he was denying a goal scoring opportunity.

I would guess that there will have been twenty or so back passes free kicks in SAFC games since the rule was introduced and this is the only time I can remember a card being issued

Dowd making a tit of himself as usual
It's got nothing to do with denying a goal scoring opportunity. The back pass rule was not brought in to counter that.

A goal keeper can not be penalised for handball in the penalty area.

Pass back is a technical offence, like offside, foul throws and the ball not leaving the area during a goal kick. They are not classed as a foul or misconduct.

Only thing he might get away with is claiming it was unsporting conduct.

Correct, this should be made a sticky!

Re: Backpasses

I'm happy for him to take the booking for what he did, it was going in no doubt about it. Well done the Mig!

B - Dowd making a tit of himself as usual

A - Wrong on every level
B - Correct on every level

I do not profess to be an expert on this, hence the use of apparently, the point I was trying to make was that if the cvnt could book him for it when in my memory no one has been booked for this previously, then he was just as capable of sending him off... cos he is a useless fat cvnt

Only having a laugh mate! You got slaughtered by quite a few people, I'd say I was quite tounge in cheek in my approach................... you were nailed on regards Dowd though ;)

Re: Backpasses

Deliberate handball.

Theres a case to say it should be a red.
No it wasn't, a keeper can't be punished for deliberate handball in his own box according to the laws of the game.

He committed a technical foul, same as offside.

Look up the reasons that the back pass rule was brought in, this scenario was not one of them.

Re: Backpasses

There's only 2 times a keeper will pick it up though

1 - Risk of a goal being scored
2 - Forgot about the rule

Given that 99% of the time it will be the first of those, then almost all backpasses would result in this "unsporting conduct".

Which is why I think its stupid that he was booked.

Or......
3. Wrongly interpreted the pass back as being a deflection.

tbf I think what Mignolet done was worthy of a red card and a penalty. Obviously not under the current laws as the rules are what they are - but I think in future there should be no distinction between a GK deliberately handling it on the line illegally and a defender.

Bollocks, the back pass rule was to stop time wasting, not for things like this.
