Question for fellow golfers.

Was playing in a comp on Saturday, was supposed to be three of us in our group. Got to the first tee and one lad was there, then a young lad came up with his dad, said he couldn't play as he had done his wrist in, so I signed his card to say he had turned up and we had accepted he couldn't play.

But then he got on the first tee asked to borrow my driver tee'd a ball up and then just knocked it off, picked it up and went on his way, neither me or the lad who I went round with knew why he did it????? Any ideas????

I don't play the game, but a few of my mates do and they go on and on and on about it, any hoo might it be something to do about having to play so many competitions to keep his handicap?

as a golfer myself that is bizarre ! and i have no explanation as to why he would do that

but unless he has gone right round he is cheating.and you have signed said card with a false score on

When you say he was a young lad does that mean in his teens? Might have been an act of defiance towards his dad if his dad's basically told him he couldn't play because of his dodgy wrist?

Heworth was the course.

He didn't whack the ball. Just literally nudged it off the tee and walked off. he was only in his teens I would have thought, had his card fully marked up, wa off 6. So not a bad player, so I'm guessing it's something your supposed to do. Only thing I could think of was that because he had actually turned up to the course and not wrote his name on the apologies board, he had to 'play' a shot and then he could say he was injured during the round and couldn't complete??? But I've never seen it before like.

yes canny shout
although a better one would be that if he didn't play he could be banned for a certain number of competitions but if he hits off, signs for a no return he obviously wont be

That will probably be it. Because it's a 3 comp ban if you just don't turn up. I just didn't think he would have to play a shot if both playing partners had signs his card. I'll have to remember that if I get crocked.

Its a bit bizarre surely all he had to do was go in the pro shop and explain he was injured he's still turned up, its not like it was lashing down and he hasn't shown. If it's a genuine reason he shouldn't be banned. I'm no expert but possibly by using your clubs he's disqualified anyway you might be as well but I'm not certain on that.

Golf clubs can have some right arsey rules, i got banned for a couple of weeks at houghton.

Never missed a medal for at least a year, plus other comps..played 2-3 times a week.,,etc etc etc

Got "extra" mortal one saturday and missed my tee sunday morning...zero mitigation..banned.

Its stuff like the above that gives golf it's reputation.

Well he is disqaulified from the competition because you cannot share clubs...not that good after all tbh...

Cpme to Boldon, none of this carry on with putting namrs down before the said day, turn up on comp morning pay in the comp and play..

Do you think the ops disqualified as well? My club if you've got a reason you don't get banned. I got stuck in a accident the other week missed my tee and didn't get banned. Is it not a nightmare with loads of people turning up at the same time if you haven't got a start sheet ?

both players would be disqualified for sharing the club..

i've just bought myself this today httphttp://www.americangolf.co.uk/product/Nike-Golf-Machspeed-Black-STR8-Fit-Round-Head-Driver/p80771.aspx
9.5 degree stiff.

Can't get away with Nike clubs myself. Just don't have any feel at all I find.
And I was wondering if I would get called up for allowing him to use my club, but the guy I was with has played for 20 years at the club, and he didn't say anything, so my score has still stood. Didn't win anyway, so makes no odds.
