He got him to defend better by sacrificing his attacking, meaning he was in the right position more often. He also made sure the likes of Khazri gave him much needed protection.

One of the best forms if defense if attack. Barcelona and Real Madrid sign players at full back who are good in possession which means they defend better as they all keep the ball well.

PVA isnt even that great with the ball.

He was outstanding under allardyce for 2nd part of last season. The lad has loads of potential and probs needs a certain type of manager to get the best from him. Having a decent set of players around him would help aswell
