Pubs

You can go other places to socialise but I've also very rarely planned to go to the pub and sit on my todd so the social aspect of it is a big draw.

I've been to the pub and not had an alcoholic drink when I've got other stuff to do or have the car, but I'd be popping in to see mates not popping in to pay a fortune for a glass of cola.

I did go to the pub down the road for the first England game in the World Cup by myself, knowing I'd not have a drink. But that was because I wanted to watch the game with a bit of atmosphere. Again that's a social draw of being around others rather than wanting a pint.

People will go where people go. Even the barflies who'll sit propping up the end of the bar will go to see who they see when they get there.

It’s not a rule. I don’t generally have time beforehand. Once I’ve got up or got in from work and had dinner, it’s time to leave. Then I’m normally driving after the match.!

Proper planning prevents piss poor performance
Nah. Turn out. Gan anywhere.

Went to a place last night to meet two mates. We had a table and sat down, and a fella brought out food for us to eat while we drank tea because we're all off the drink.

It's a called a restaurant. Might catch on who knows.
Doubt it. Sounds horrendous. 3 lads talking about their feelings over a dry supper. No thanks.

i go to the pub to drink in an atmosphere away from the flat and with the opportunity for external input into the conversation. if there was no drink, then i wouldn't go, to answer the question.

If the government banned alcohol so pubs could only offer soft drinks and 0% beers would people still go? Many say its the social side of it that they enjoy so presumably a pub would still be a good place to meet friends. Particularly in the NE as according to this place blokes don't meet up with their mates unless the pub is involved.

It’s only the fact that people are pissed that spoils going out sober for me, if that’s taken away it’s just like going anywhere else.

People wouldn’t talk as much shit either.

People don’t tend to spend as much time in a coffee shop as a pub.
Well yeah that's the nature of coffee. Unlike beer where it can be an all day thing.
The op has created a scenario where alcohol is banned. He's asking if people only go out because alcohol is part of going out. For some it's about the alcohol, for some it's the meeting with friends and of course it can be both of those things.
I've never been in a coffee shop I don't drink hot drinks. They're always busy when I walk past one though. If beer was banned I'd still go out and meet up with mates and that would likely be in a pub. The ones that survived of course.

I think it would be weird like 😂

Banning alcohol would ruin Friday and Saturday nights in A & E...taking away work from doctors and nurses...disgusting.
I'm 53, drank in pubs since I was 16. Never ended up at A&E after a session. Only time I've been at A&E is when I've been sober.
