Pubs

At first people would likely stay at home then old habits would change and meeting up with friends for an alcohol free chat would become the norm.

I agree there. Which is reassuring as at present it seems, from the responses, that without alcohol men would become recluse and the mental health impact would be huge.

Its the combo of the two
We have a good crack on when out but the patter starts slow at first ,sober ,then gets 100% pure gold after 4 or 5 pints

Okay then, move it to the left and say meeting up for a couple of pints. No one feels a couple really so two non alcoholic drinks would be the same.

Banning alcohol would ruin Friday and Saturday nights in A & E...taking away work from doctors and nurses...disgusting.

So would you rather meet in a pub (that only sold 0% beer and soft drinks) over any other place?
A "public house," in the term's broadest sense, could be any site where alcohol is legally consumed on the premises. This occurred primarily through the system of public house licensing.

It would no longer be a pub but somewhere to meet. It could be anywhere. It would be shite. I'd probably go to a cafe.

It's not. They can still go to the pub. It's in the OP.
You said alcohol is banned that's what I'm talking about.
Pubs would adapt in what they sell and people would still go. Humans like to be with others so meeting with friends would still go on.

Went to a place last night to meet two mates. We had a table and sat down, and a fella brought out food for us to eat while we drank tea because we're all off the drink.

It's a called a restaurant. Might catch on who knows.

That's only because the people you are asking are used to going to the pub for a beer.
If beer was banned some would stop going out others wouldn't. Then in a generation or twos time going to pubs, which would no longer be pubs, and not drinking alcohol would become the normal thing.

What did they do to you?

Bong shops would be popular.

Ah I see you've frequented Rusholme...

Tea?
With a meal?

If it wasn't Fish and Chips, I'm calling the police.

It's not so stupid to ban the most dangerous drug in the world.

I point you towards prohibition sir. That worked out well.

Regulation is always preferable imho. Criminalisation won’t on its own reduce demand so you’re merely allowing the supply to be controlled by criminals with all the associated problems that brings.

I’d dispute alcohol is the most dangerous mind. How many recreational crack heads do ye kna?

We're 100 years on...the outcome is unknown.

I know quite a few crackheads.

So you'd not ever bother going the pub if alcohol wasn't available, as per the question posed?

Also, I can feel a collective shudder as men try to imagine meeting mates in a restaurant for food and not having alcohol.

Hmm. I suppose I can stretch to that.

Good lad.

I've been to the pub once since December 27th and it was because I was drinking. If I'm not on the piss I'm not going to the pub.

I've had a few alcohol free nights out but alcohol free beer gives me the shits and I'm actively trying to avoid spending my free time around drunk people or people taking drugs.

Never go out for two pints . I do catch up with people away from a pub but a drink is 3 or 4 hours together

i can do sober in pubs mind ,pre gig, post gig if i take a car . Some matches if im driving later i'll do an hour in the pub etc

If the government banned alcohol so pubs could only offer soft drinks and 0% beers would people still go? Many say its the social side of it that they enjoy so presumably a pub would still be a good place to meet friends. Particularly in the NE as according to this place blokes don't meet up with their mates unless the pub is involved.
Be a huge decline they all shut down imho.
