Pubs

If the government banned alcohol so pubs could only offer soft drinks and 0% beers would people still go? Many say its the social side of it that they enjoy so presumably a pub would still be a good place to meet friends. Particularly in the NE as according to this place blokes don't meet up with their mates unless the pub is involved.

People meet up in coffee shops and there's no alcohol there. So alcohol doesn't have to be involved.

Is any issue of thinking of somthing to do with your mates that doesn't involve a pint like i have to say.

I don’t meet any of my mates for a coffee and I can’t see that changing anytime soon.
I didn't say everybody did that but it does happen. It's very popular in America and getting more popular here. My Mrs meets up with friends and it used to be a pub. Now they meet for a coffee. Most of them were drinking coffee or soft drinks in the pub so no booze available doen't matter.
Only in the Uk - I have a beer if I meet the missus in a coffee shop
Aye you have to be licensed to sell beer over here. I imagine it's more liberal in other countries.
You can of course get coffee in a pub in the UK these days. That was unheard of when I first started drinking.

The whole premise sounds absolutely shit.

I take it you'd not go then Moo? Do you not pop out for three or four with your mates to watch a match for example? Would three or four pints of 0% make a difference to the outing?

Men don't apparently.

No one I know does but obviously some men do. But I’d hazard a guess it’s a tiny % .

In answer to your OP probably not I’d go round a mates house or have them round mine or find a shabeen.

Thankfully no government would be stupid enough to do this.

Well no because there is a better choice out there that men prefer. I certainly wouldn't meet friends for a coffee, I don't drink coffee or tea anyway.
But you said if alcohol was banned would people still meet up. So in that scenario alcohol isn't a choice and the choice is meet for a coffee or don't go out. At first people would likely stay at home then old habits would change and meeting up with friends for an alcohol free chat would become the norm.

It's not. They can still go to the pub. It's in the OP.

If there was no alternative, I would meet people somewhere where their was no booze but would not choose the place over a pub.
