Pride comes before a fall

Poor post, the debate is on every thread, this adds absolutely nothing and everyone has their own opinion that they truly believe to be right
This too .Absolutely no need for a new thread on it other than attention seeking

He has a point though.

I know the rule us now that anyone even daring to question the Don is savaged by the forum members because they are more in touch with reality. We shall see.
There's questioning Donald and then there is not listening to what he says, then posting crap you cheery pick from it.

Decided to listen to the latest RR “love in” Podcast with SD last night. I was initially left feeling enthused and positive by what SD had to say and whilst I think he has genuine intentions but on reflection I can’t help but question a couple of things he said.

1) when asked about taking out short term loans instead of asking Juan Sartori to help out he rambled on about being to proud to go cap in hand to Juan at this stage. Well that’s all well and good but surely the well being and rebuilding of the club should come before SD saving face over what he is now claiming to be a “rushed” uncomprehensive due diligence?

2) SD said the reason the loans might be needed is partly due to the Alvarez court case. He went on to claim that Ellis Short had advised there was “no chance” we would lose the case so nothing to worry about. I’m sorry but surely with the money involved in losing the case any person would and should do more than take somebody else’s opinion prior to committing to buy the club, anything else is complete naivety at best. Slightly concerning considering he is trying to rebuild our train wreck of a club!

3) When talking about transfers and Juan Sartori SD stated that if he asked Juan for the funds to buy Jack Marriot he would probably stump up the cash but that’s not how he wants to do things. Surely the absolute priority at this stage of proceedings has to be to get this club promoted at the first time of asking? You don’t buy an investment property at a song that needs renovating and try to fix it up on a shoestring over a long period while your mate who invested with you has the funds to turn the property around quickly? This club in the Premiership is worth £150 - 200 million, £5 - 10 million spent now to guarantee a swift return to the Championship is surely money well spent, what is SD attempting to prove and why by adopting his approach?

Before people start banging on with “we spent money before look where it got us” spending money didnt get us to the 3rd division poor management did.

and

we would rather be self sufficient than reliant on a billionaire” I couldn’t give a damn how we achieve it I just want to see a team capable of challenging in the top half of the Premier League which is where this club should be!
Well balanced and common sense. Have the comment stuffed, and wheeled out now and again to cut through the infantile guff.

I think our priority should be the long term financial future of the club being secure. As I said elsewhere Shrewsbury finished 3rd in this league with 6000 average attendance and a sub 4m wage bill. If we can’t be self financing and successful in this league we should give up.

People take for granted Ellis doing right thing at the end. With a more sinister owner we were close to oblivion. A mere 3moths later people are already advocating living beyond our means.
When he was speaking about the Alvarez deals and other things coming out of the woodwork which he wouldn't expand on which have cost more, I got a bit of a sinking feeling. Have they really missed these things or are they excuses for a lack of spending?
it all seems a bit convenient, when they first came in they were saying they had done thorough due dilligence now SD is saying they didn’t, which is it?

the 'love in' part makes the rest of the OP sound like simple nit picking.

yes, we all have our concerns because we want to see the club doing well, we all realise the current squad is paper thin. the difference between posters seems to be some are willing to be patient and see how things pan out while others are getting all flustered because we are not throwing money on getting players in.

SD himself has said we need at least a couple of goal scorers and defenders (pretty obvious to most) so i am holding onto the opinion that the club are 'grabbing' as many squad fillers along the way, who will do a good enough job at this level then spending the cash on players who will be able to stick with the club in the championship...there is no reason to think my opinion is correct or misguided but that is how i want to look at it right now, there is also no reason why i will not change opinion should things not play out as i hope.

I totally get the need to rip the guts out of the costs at the club.

But there is part of me thinking that if the bigger picture is back to premier league asap then I don't understand arguing over £500 per week wages and 250k asking price if it guaranteed promotion this season and gets us rolling.

I absolutely do not want anymore than one season in league 1.

I can live with championship for as long as it takes, but I want out of league 1 at first attempt.

When you unpick through the rambling dialogue there are some real concerns with new regime and how they do business. I was gobsmacked by his remarks about the Aleverez deal and not doing due diligence

The huge concern is the transfer activity thus far
the transfer activity so far is entirely logical and what was to be expected given where we are both financially and in the division we find ourselves , personally am I'm optimistic about this season , a top 10 finish and then promotion next.

You do due diligence and things come out which are uncertain at the time of the deal signed. These are usually dealt with in terms of reps and warranties.

An example

SD so Ellis what about this Alvarez court case in June ?

Ellis no probs stew we will win ,worst case I’ll represent in the contract nee more than 2m. I’ll give you a warrant that if it’s more than 2m I’ll let you deduct from the earn out payments.

Fast forward to July

SD on phone. Hi Ellis that Alvarez case gone tits up. I need you to settle that

Ellis. Fuck!

I take from SD podcast he thinks he has a warranty case against Ellis. All deals have these clauses in the S&P contract. Eg Amanda Stavely wanted fat mike to warrant she’d get £100m off the price of relegation. MA said do one

The not throwing money around is not the only concern, its some of the inconsistencies in the information coming out of the club and how some of the things just don’t add up. I genuinely 100% hope the club has now reached rock bottom and the only way is up with the new ownership but the early signs are not great.

I thought not

Spend £10 million in this league and how much do you think we’d have left to spend to challenge or consolidate should we get promoted to the Championship?

I’d like the club spend some money but £10 million in league one is ludicrous.

That’s all well and good but why in the first press conference when asked about due dilligence Charlie Metvhen said they had completed a thorough due dilligence with a team of people working virtually 24 hours a day for 2 weeks solid. In the podcast this week Donald claims the due diligence was rushed and things were missed which are now coming to light?

So are you saying if we buy this lad we get a guarantee of promotion.

Talk about reading a post and interpreting it to suit your own agenda.

When you do due diligence you investigate the known unknowns. There are unknown unknowns which is why the vendor normally warrants the balance sheet is correct and warrants full disclosure. That is why when nasties come out you knock dosh off price. SD if he got his reps and warranties right is in strong position - he’s sitting on £24m of ES MONEY

I was banned for calling someone an arsehole, confirmed by a Mod ....

.... and the truth is he was an arsehole who seems to have been life banned
Name names of Pm :)

It’s really quite simple, trust the new owners or don’t, believe them or don’t.
But don’t fudge it, stick to your views either way.
And whatever side you stick to have the courage of your convictions to admit you were right or wrong

Which arsehole has just had a life ban ?

I don't think they are more in touch with reality mate ,I think they are impatient . As to lack of transfer activity ,we have had 7 new players arrive ,lots of players at the end of their contracts gone and good money for at least two of those who have left .
Give the owner a chance FFS , also show him some respect ,some arsehole even started a post stating he , the owner , was a loud mouth .
We already owe 20 million on outstanding player payments ,now the OP is suggesting we spend another 10 million

could care less about the owner tbh, could be a gobshite chancer or the best thing since sliced bacon............ that which we put out on the field and their performance will determine which category he falls into

his greatest virtue would appear to be hes not ellis short....... so hes got a get out of jail free card it would seem
