Pre season in Portugal

Coleman was 100% behind it been a training camp with no friendlies. He said it was pointless playing a friendly over there and the friendlies should be against British teams.

He was good at interviews though so we should have kept him

I actually agree with him (but that'll come as no surprise).

we played 3 games over there last time and aside from it being an outstanding excuse for a piss up, I don't think we gained anything from them.

Didn’t Nyron score though

Was class last time in Albufeira.

10 days in the sun drinking €2 pints with a few matches as part of it

I Was there last year, sitting half cut and loads of Boro and oxford fans started walking past, didn’t know what was going on, they’d been playing a friendly there.

nah. We've been back since. Poyet was manager. When Nyron scored, we played actual football teams and won a trophy so that was good for momentum. Under Poyet, we played 3 crap teams and looked shit, off the pace and well... like we'd just started pre-season.

By the 3rd game, the queues for the bar were more interesting than the actual football. Twist and shout was sang for just about the duration of game 3 and the players ended up out up the strip about 2 hours after full time so had clearly prepped and planned for the night on the piss more than the actual football.

There’s arguments for and against it. I bet you though some people nodded along with Coleman’s theory against it a couple of weeks ago but now are nodding along to Donald’s theory in favour of it as well

It's no different to those taking a strong stand one way or the other when they have no real clue which is right.

As you say there are arguments both ways.

Cleethorpes beach, fish 'n' chips and a cheap bed and breakfast for the night for me.....simple tastes, eh?

To be fair I can see the positives in building fitness, as long as it’s done seriously, without playing absolutely meaningless kickarounds. The real building blocks of season long fitness can be laid with a quality summer camp.
True, but players need plenty of time getting to grips with the (inevitable) new managers tactics before the first game of the season. Plus to get used to how the new lads like to play (ha!). Only way to do this properly is playing warmup games against other clubs.
