Martin O'Neill said he wanted Sunderland to play like Barcelona.

Under Poyet we were actually starting to play that way at times (here and here), hopefully we'll get a few more players who that fit that style, a bit extra quality and we'll have a good season.

Those 2 clips, is it really us, f***ing magnificent, never seen us play like that in over 40 years of following the lads

Unfortunately, this.

Mind you, it was immediately apparent what he wanted when he came in and had to use the players at his disposal, so there is hope for us.

Well I tell you what marra, Poyet can bore me shitless all the way to another cup final for me like.
Poyet ?
I was talking about swansea ?

looking forward to it , the players he wants will all have to have the capability of passing the ball in possession football , hopefully we can get off to a good start with a must win game v West Brom

First game of the season is a "must win". ffs

Bergkamp and Juniniho were shite in their first seasons over here and turned out to be f***ing brilliant.

Big difference between Bergkamp/Juninho and Larsson/Cattermole. Bergkamp and Juninho were world-class. We won't be signing world-class names. We will be relying on, as we have always done, Championship players or players from Guatemala's 3rd Division because we think we can get something out of them that hasn't been unlocked. Some inner potential. We saw it with players like Dossena, Bridcutt and that Kyrgakos I think his name was. We saw it all the time under Reidy. He collected them. Players like Laslandes, Fredgaard, Mercimek and Medina.

Can we have a forum for depressive fuckers please mods?

The negativity from some about this baffles me.
All he wants to do is establish a way of playing and ingrain it into the club, not just for now but for the future. When he leaves then it's up to the club hierarchy to appoint a manager who can carry on that way of playing like Swansea have done.
If it was route one up and under then
maybe we could complain but as he believes in an attractive style we should be happy.

I am sure he will do the best job he can. I am sure being halfhearted is not in GP's dictionary. But we have just heard it all before from managers like Mick McCarthy, Martin O'Neill, Steve Bruce, Roy Keane and PDC. How they want to instill a new ethos. A new mentality. And it hasn't worked. People like me are scared to put yet more faith in a manager because of all the bad experienced before.

I'm not so sure they have, I think they were like most managers under pressure at a Premiership club they just wanted to win the next game and get results short term, and obviously Gus is probably no different.
I just detect he genuinely wants to
build a club, but that can only happen with the backing of Short.
I get your point about heard it all before, my first game was 1959!!

Can understand Short being slightly cautious after whats been left behind from his initial choices
