Poyet vows to create new ethos at Sunderland

I preferred the way we played later in the season, worked harder and closed teams down more higher up the pitch.

The way he likes to play I find a bit slow, especially at home where quicker starts would of done.

Anyway good to see he has a clear plan I guess.
Agree.

and agree.

If he maintains/sorts this out i'll be well happy. Good manager, Gustavo, when he gets it right.

This sounds great, but it baffles me why football managers are allowed to spend millions of pounds without having this kind of plan in place at the very least.

Wanting to do something and having the qualities needed to bring a lot of people along with you is very different. It's not easy, I know because I have failed to do it myself before.

Gus has shown he can bring the players and club with him.
No he hasn't.

A new identity doesn't mean success
Is that aimed at the poster WUM?

This is England. We've been shite at demanding sensible planning from our coaching teams. Most of the rest of the world has got this sussed, but apart from a few teams here, it's not been the norm. It should be mentioned however, that it's much easier to implement in a lower league side, as Southampton, and Swansea have done. The Premier league is far too results driven to do this without throwing huge amounts of money at it, as City have done. It'll be a very hard task for Gus, but we have little choice but to back him to succeed. He's shown he can get results from mediocre players. Let's see what he can do with players who are comfortable on the ball.

Last season we played well against the top sides but could not beat hull on 3 meetings, so how come? no consistency maybe or just the better teams won on the day.

PDC wanted to bring a new ethos to the club and see what happened to him. I'll believe it when I see it.

Yes, it is to be hoped that Poyet has obtained permission to change the ethos from Cattermole et al, otherwise I fear another ketchup moment coming on

The negativity from some about this baffles me.
All he wants to do is establish a way of playing and ingrain it into the club, not just for now but for the future. When he leaves then it's up to the club hierarchy to appoint a manager who can carry on that way of playing like Swansea have done.
If it was route one up and under then
maybe we could complain but as he believes in an attractive style we should be happy.

Martin O'Neill said he wanted Sunderland to play like Barcelona.

Under Poyet we were actually starting to play that way at times (here and here), hopefully we'll get a few more players who that fit that style, a bit extra quality and we'll have a good season.

I've heard all this shit before. Don't get me wrong I'd love success but I'll believe it when I see it.
Unfortunately, this.

Mind you, it was immediately apparent what he wanted when he came in and had to use the players at his disposal, so there is hope for us.

Yep and it bores the f***ing pants off everybody
Well I tell you what marra, Poyet can bore me shitless all the way to another cup final for me like.

Let's be honest what he is saying should be a given anyway and I get the impression it's a dig at former managers. Surely if you buy a player you have a specific plan for them anyway. I suppose of you buy 8-9 players in a close season it does show an element of that you are pretty clueless. Personally I'd rather we spent 30m on 3 players and cross our fingers that they stay fit than 8 gambles like we have in the past. Swansea bought Bony for top dollar and it's served them well. Push the boat out for Williams and Sow and bring in a creative midfielder and leave it as it is IMO. If they get injured then that's through no fault of trying. We've tried the big squad approach.
