Poyet Pleads For New Personnel

I can't believe I have read through 11 pages and nobody has pointed out that he is completely wrong about us finishing in the top ten once in the last 15 years.

We finished 7th in 2000 and 2001, so that makes it three times.

It doesn't alter the point he's making but if he's going to point out how shit we have been he should at least not erase our best two seasons in that 15 years.

I'm a big supporter of Gus but I hate it when he makes these sort of statements to the press. He might be right and he might have good reason to make them when he is pushing to bring better players in this window but I don't like it.
It was so long ago it might have been 150 years.

We're getting back to the 'shit players inherited' threads again, can only polish a turd etc.

I agree with Gus but he knew what he was getting into from the start and like us he could see the pitfalls. PDC brought up the very same and was slammed an idiot (crazy, yes. A fool hmmm).

Gus is starting to deflect blame away from him and by doing so has probably lost the dressing room. Would explain the crap performances of late. Coupled with bad tactics and poor substitutions it looks like downward spiral...

Sorry but that's a load of crap he's lost the plot man. He stands on the touch line and can communicate directly with the players. There's no way he would expect them to "work things out by themselves" due to the way he sets out his team before the game. They have to maintain their defensive positions first and foremost, it's drilled into them on the training ground! He is the architect of the teams failure. The buck stops with him. You can see the players confidence dwindling as the game goes on. You just have to look at pantillimons distribution especially on Saturday to see the mistakes being made are purely down to frustration at the tactics poyet is asking them to employ. It is not going to get better we have seen this before it is only going to get worse and us as fans can do nothing about it.
I agree. If any of the players went on walkabouts surely Poyet would go ballistic? They seem to be drilled to within an inch of their lives yet Poyet wants them to 'think on their feet'. Spontaneity has a price that obviously Poyet will not pay by looking at how his team is so cautious with defensive duties paramount to the exclusion of almost anything else.

Does anyone actually trust him (or whoever the f•ck is signing players atm) to spend any funds wisely?

Vergini? Bridcutt? Scocco (f***ing Scocco!!!!!!!)!!!!! Buckley???

The only players who have gave us slight positives over the last 12 months were already here long before he took over... Connor, Seb, Catts, JoS has been steady...

Gus needs to be careful IMO.
Don't want him out, but in no way is he immune to criticism.
A loose cannon in interviews before, quick to pass the buck on occasion too.

It would be canny if Ellis would spend some f***ing money... Hopefully we can get that Sheff Wed defender...:oops:

Sick to death of his constant whining and “It’s not my fault” attitude. If we’d been doing well would he have praised the club for everything they have done that was out of his hands? Or would he have taken all the credit. I think we can guess.....

He picks the team. Tactics and substitutions are down to him. Motivating the players would be down to him as well if it ever crossed his mind that maybe, just maybe, the constant slagging off of his playing staff wasn’t that good an idea. In trying to deflect blame from himself he’ll lose the players soon with his incessant digs at them.

It’s any 3 of the bottom 8 at the minute, and we are looking at least as poor as the teams around us and most of them have players who can score goals and win games for them. We don’t, and even if we had a decent striker we are creating so little it wouldn’t make much difference anyway.

We have some winnable home games coming up, but our record at home in the League for the last few seasons doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, does it.

I agree with him. Can't believe so many don't after reading what most people say on here.

I agree with the sentiment but my opinion of the players will have little if any effect on the players. The disagreement is whether it's counterproductive for the head coach to be coming out & saying it in public.

I think he should confine these opinions to meetings with the board. The only things the players should be hearing from him should be encouragement in public or if he has a criticism of a particular player it should be one to one in his office behind a closed door.

If your boss was slagging you off in public would you be giving him your best efforts or just do enough to get by until either he or you were gone?

The same people slating Gus here are the ones saying we need new players and the same ones stating how he has done wonders with Cattermole! They will also be the same people who slated the club for allowing Colback to leave and then moaning Wickham was given a new contract. 'Kin love the SMB me like.

Some of what he says is probably spot on, but he should be saying it behind closed doors. Either he's trying his luck and trying to get more money this month or he's getting his excuses in early before he leaves. Either way he's playing a dangerous game because i wouldn't think Short will be very happy about his comments.

Sunderland sat far too deep, with Adam Johnson and Emanuele Giaccherini virtually confined to their own half in attempting to contain the Liverpool wing-backs.

"We were confused in the first half, badly confused,” admitted head coach Poyet.

“I think you need to be flexible.

“You cannot take things literally because, on the pitch, things happen.

“I don’t know what is going to happen on the pitch.

“I don’t know whether they are going to play with a square in the middle, or four across the pitch.

“You need to adapt.

“The disappointing side is we sorted it out at half-time.

“But, at this moment of time, I was expecting my team to sort it out on the pitch
".

surely this wasnt the players choice and isnt that why he was on the touchline to sort things like tactics/formation out?

Completely agree.....he soaks up credit re the end of last season when he had clearly given up. Then this season shrugs and says its not his fault. If he really is this impotent and helpless then fuck him off and save on the wages because he is contributing absoloutley nothing

He's a useless, clueless arsehole and the quicker he is given the bullet the better.

We're 1 (one) point from the bottom 3 with Spurs away coming up and he comes out with this motivational epic. There's a time and a place for these outbursts and it isn't when we're floundering just to save a bit of skin off your own nose. He is in it for himself and himself only. I can't stand him or his football.

There is no style, it is the same each and every week. In 16 months we've seen no improvement going forward and if anything it's getting worse. The players look shot, devoid of confidence and inspiration. We haven't got a clue how to attack or a style of play that will see us score goals. Gary Neville has noticed it and Linekar had a dig on Saturday so at least it isn't just us.

He's basically admitted he can't get anything from the team and that they're too thick to understand his methods. After 16 months. Perhaps you're just a crap coach, Gus? I mean, after 16 months all you have managed to do is turn your team into one that plays 9-0-1. Any manager could do that.

But aye, carry on criticising the players in public when we're 1 (one) point from the relegation zone. You f***ing tit.

Virtually everyone is here is demanding new players and Gus comes out and says the same thing and gets slated for it. Says it all about this place these days.
Its cool to slag Gus off, when we win a couple of games people will be sucking his cock again.

TBF Bridcutt has been playing well and Vergini is clearly knackered and playing out of position... I would still say that Buckley needs time to atadpt to the league

he has changed Catts and Sebs game completely for the better and JOS and Brown are looking as good a defensive partnership as your going to get at this level. Infact the whole defense has.

He has positives aswell as negatives.

He does, but he needs to keep his f***ing trap shut!

The defence has looked good because there are 9 of them for most of the match.
