How much did they all cost?Coates, Scocco, Bridcutt, Vergini, Ustari, Buckley were all players Poyet knew very well. I think it's safe to say he had a hand big hand in all of those deals...
“We had to look to people we knew. We had a bit of a relationship with Marcos (Alonso) with the Spanish and we wanted him the year before at Brighton when he went to Fiorentina.
“I knew Liam (Bridcutt), I knew Oscar (Ustari) from Argentina and Nacho Scocco as well.
“Every team in South America wanted Scocco but it did not work for whatever reason here. - http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/01/01/sunderland-flop-ignacio-scocco-bemuses-boss-gus-poyet/
On Buckley -
Poyet said: “I am so pleased that he had a very good first half because now everybody knows why I was so consistent in asking the club to bring him.
“It took us seven and a half months, but we got him here and now everybody knows why – because he is electric, because he’s direct, because he brings the stands into a different feeling, the atmosphere. - http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/gus-now-that-s-why-i-pursued-buckley-1-6803256
On Coates -
But Poyet rates Coates highly after recommending the centre-half to Liverpool in the summer of 2011, when he was then in charge at Brighton.
Poyet told the Echo: “Sebber is my first Uruguayan here. I had one (on-loan Stoke midfielder, Diego Arismendi) for a month at Brighton.
“I know Sebber, I recommended him to England in the beginning when he came to Liverpool.
“He was a 6ft 3in centre-half, calm on the ball and with aggression.
“He’s a good player." - http://www.newsguardian.co.uk/sport...ge-sunderland-s-defensive-duo-poyet-1-6842764
So we can remove the myth of this conveyor belt of random signings by Congerton, with Gus having no input. It's a cop out, and a shit one, and it's utter bollocks.

Every word he speaks is absolutely spot on.
I'm pleased he brought up the Peter Reid thing too - far too long we have been living in the past.
Cant see why people are getting annoyed either, he's honest, what have we achieved since coming back to the Premier League? nothing, barring a cup final (down to him). We have changed manager at the slightest sign of trouble, meaning upheaval of players, staff and style, and then we go again, hoping for the best, before shitting ourselves again 18 months later - its a continuous cycle.
People are calling for his head, idiotic. It's make or break time for us I think, its time we back a manager and don't shit ourselves when the going gets tough. I'm pleased that Poyet has had the bottle to state a few home truths, and I'll be backing him. We all slate Newcastle and Pardew, but at least Ashley didn't get trigger happy when the going got tough, and they're now ahead of us in terms of recent league positions and structure.
If Poyet was to go, he'd be the third manager in a row to not have a full season in charge - how f***ing pathetic is that?

I bet poyet interview for the job must have been a cracker.. Ellis Short..well Gus how are you going to make us a better team...Well Boss I will play this really slow football because all the players you have at the club we are shite, or and BTW the clubs been shite for years so it doesn't really make much difference if I fuck up as well..Great Gus you've got the job Welcome aboard
The lack of patience is astounding. The mission for Gus originally was just to keep us up. He did that. And he did it while developing a style of play that could get us out of trouble. When you saw that style working it REALLY worked imo. Once we got the confidence to pass it about things looked much better. He's achieved the first challenge and now it's about steady progress. Some seem to have been expecting a season where we push on and finish top 10. Keep f***ing dreaming. There was no way we were going to achieve that with the modest investments we made in the summer. Gus is frustrated, obviously. But it's because his team are making similar mistakes as last season and it's becoming more like last season as the games go by. But to say this is BECAUSE of Gus is madness. There are inherent problems with this squad and the inconsistency is just horrible. The struggles have not been caused by Gus at all, they've just been the same struggles we had last season and he's having to pull his hair out again most weeks because the players look like they're just not showing up half the time.
You really are a moron mate.
I think we have about 5 or 6 genuinely Prem class players and a lot of Champo standard ones of whom maybe another 5 or 6 can get away with it on a good day.
This has now happened to us under head coach after head coach. They have set up this daft DoF system up so the coach has even less responsibility.
The blame can be sorted out later between the players, the coach the DoF and the board.
For now we need to fix it fast or we are going down here - a striker, a creative midfielder and another defender need to come in Jan - loans or purchases I couldn't care,,but we need them badly as we can all see...
I think the important question is, how much have they all played?
Ustari, Scocco, Buckley, Bridcutt & Coates are all certain Poyet signings. Not 1 of them is or was a 1st team player. Handful of starts between them. £8-9m pounds they all cost roughly.
We sold Scocco, So 6 players for 6m is all he's had to spend. I don't know what he's expected to do with that.I think the important question is, how much have they all played?

And your as slow as poyet tactics
Yes - I said he was responsible for Scocco and the Brighton lads but they are all cheap squad filler.
Coates was a last day Prem loan or we'd have literally had no-one - wtf was Congleton doing all summer on the loan front?
And it's the DoFs who have brought us Jozy, Giac and Rodwell for £23m. And Alvarez on a loan/purchase for £8m as I understand it.
So the DoFs have committed over £30m and Congleton has failed to get in any useful loans either despite having all Summer. At least de Fanti managed to find Ki and Borini I suppose...and Alvarez might turn out OK yet..
Not sure if you missed my reply to your earlier post but:
As 'head coach', what elements of this debacle are Poyet's fault? Are you suggesting the players are currently performing better than their limited ability allows due to Poyet's coaching?
pva has cost us several goalsProbably on his knees knocking on Fabio Borini's door at Poyet's instruction, which is probably why we didn't commit to 2 loans. In the end, we got Coates, so we couldn't have used the other on Borini anyway. I agree though, it was ridiculous not using the 2 loans.
Congerton definitely signed PVA, who he worked with at Chelsea - he has been a better buy than anybody Poyet has signed. 1.5m aswell.
We also got Pantilimon on a free, which Poyet took no ownership over as far as I recall.
Giaccherini & Jozy were signed under De Fanti - and Giaccherini was a Di Canio buy.

I didn't miss it - I can't make any sense of your question.
A team with half a dozen genuine Prem quality players and a lot of cheap filler will flirt with relegation most years. It's just a question of if there are 3 worse teams or not, how injuries go and if we can get a little confidence/run from somewhere. I think Poyet is performing OK given what he has. Not exceptionally, but not badly enough to sack yet another manager.
The fact it happens under all our managers would tend to suggest it's not a manager problem as such..
