Manchester Liverpool and Birmingham are shit holes, so apart from London, I can't see location playing the major part in players not wanting to come here.

I would argue you all have no clue what a winter is like sitting here in Minneapolis, MN USA!!!!!:eek::eek:

Who are you talking to? That was my point. Uruguayans commenting on London winters have no idea what an ugly winter even is. Spend a winter in the midwestern U.S. Just Chicago, nevermind St. Paul or Fargo.

The trouble with this country in general is that most things are London centralised. Because we are so far away from it, people may take a negative view on the NE.

In terms of media representation and the city centre, we are even behind Newcastle.

But players should look at more factors than simply where a club is located. I still think we have more things going for us than a lot of other clubs in the bottom half.

But Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are not shit holes, they have all the trapping that we only come close to in this region in Newcastle and possibly Durham. I am not saying this as a an insult but more of a challenge to the "city fathers" to get their figure our the orifices and make Sunderland a city to be proud of not a depressing embarrassment!

whats wrong with plying your trade at SOL or AOL then living outside of Sunderland - Newcastle is only up the road and nobody condems that place. There is nothing wrong with Sunderland anyway but we seem to have an apologetic response or inferiority complex when describing the city and surrounds. No difference to Leeds or Liverpool and superior to Hull FFS!
Liverpool is a far superior city in terms of it's centre and as a club they are one of the big boys.

Not really a comparison to us, Leeds or Hull.

Exactly this
They could vote for the tories, who have played a big part in deliberately running Sunderland and the north east as a whole, down.

Yet, I can remember them in the old Second Division, then Bill Shankley came along, spent some money on some good players and they have gone from where they were to being a household name. Only in extreme case (City) could that happen today though. Sunderland snubbed Shankley by the way.

Moves are afoot to use a company to do that, I believe it's the one that regenerated Granger Town in Newcastle, did a good job!

It was the Blair labour government that did for Sunderland, killed the city single handedly
