Poyet admits he has his work cut out persuading some of his targets to give the North-East a go

if these players were getting realistic wages, instead of 30 grand for sitting on a bench sometimes, they might come to appreciate that its not all about location to get a wage. if you have to work on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, to get a really good wage you'll do it.

should we put that oil rig in the centre of london instead, because the view is shitty?

i wonder what qpr's debt is? they must have a far better income than us.............

They have shedloads of debt and no more income. They are a good example of a club a foreign player will choose iover us being offered similar wages though.

They also have this man financing them who at the moment is still willing to continue to spend his own fortune rather than work within the constraints of a good business model. We haven't got that and there isn't really many of those left.

Correct, I have been in Exeter for 12 years now, and I do believe I have turned into a southern softy, its certainly warmer down here. Even the rain is warmer

The South West gets lots of rain, warm rain. I was told it was the English Riviera, they meant river
Me fatha swears blind that every time he comes down here to Selby, it's positively balmy compared to 'the Lane'.

How did middlesbrough get
Junnhio
Raveinelli
Boskic
Merson
Etc etc

Paying big bucks nowt to dee with the area
Middlesbrough is still a crap hole but they had some Excellent players
You pay the money the players will come

& the club runs up massive debts, has to stop paying for good players & gets relegated

London is a lot warmer than Sunderland which has the added benefit of being on the North Sea coast, I was always told that even Shack was driven to pack it in when he could no longer face another training session on Roker beach in November.

Sunderland should be moved 10 miles inland and we would attract more players.

Hate to say it but the is not a brand new problem, if that's the case how did bruce attract bent, gyan, cana, welbeck? The problem is desire to play and if they don't want to play for this club, balls to them !
Welbeck was only on loan. The other 3 only played 120 games between them. None of them stayed for longer than 18 months. Cana left for Istanbul, Bent for Birmingham and Gyan for the desert. Doesn't say much for Sunderland.

It's probably down to our lovely climate for the majority of our history we've mainly had Northerners and Jocks playing for us, tough lads who don't cry when the first stiff breeze comes whipping off the North Sea. Pity there's nee decent Jock players anymore....

Weather wise we get around the same amount of rain per year as Barcelona and considerably less than places like Milan (but you would never see me there). I think it's the cold biting wind, lack of sunshine and fog when it's sunny everywhere else in the UK that makes our weather shit.

Like people have said, if players want the bright lights look elsewhere or show them our seafront illuminations

Nowt wrong with what Poyet is saying but the Mirror love twisting it to get a dig in at Sunderland.

That joke of a publication is so pro Mag and anti Sunderland it's a joke. They constantly love having digs at Sunderland as a place. Like that time they ran the story about Medina choosing to live in vibrant Newcastle rather than run down Sunderland.

Mind, it's owned by Trinity Mirror who also own the Mackem hating Ronnie Gill.

No current first team footballers actually live in Sunderland.

The aforementioned players highlight yet another problem. If you can persuade them to come, they don't hang around long ! Welbeck excepted as he was on loan, none of the others stayed for very long. Quinn used to talk about potential signings being sounded out and researched as much about their character and lifestyle as their footballing ability. I'm sure Congerton is finding out now that there's more to attracting players to SAFC than just agreeing length of contracts and wages.

f***ing hell I was just about to launch a tirade of abuse at Poyet and him making excuses already...... then I decided to read the link. Fuck off Mirror you sensationalist cunts

Or build a indoor training facility

i'm watching gp like a hawk mate, like a hawk for signs of that haunted faraway look behind his eyes that i picked up on last spring there. the haunted faraway look of an unsound mind mate. the minute we line up with five at the back i'll knar

The weather is f***ing awful in London too.
He says that

whats wrong with plying your trade at SOL or AOL then living outside of Sunderland - Newcastle is only up the road and nobody condems that place. There is nothing wrong with Sunderland anyway but we seem to have an apologetic response or inferiority complex when describing the city and surrounds. No difference to Leeds or Liverpool and superior to Hull FFS!
You genuinely believe Sunderland is no worse than Leeds or Liverpool......have you ever been outside of our city?

I hate it when people go on about this issue. Liverpool and Manchester teams don't go on about it, I don't know why we do.

As I always say on this issue; a footballer can live anywhere from Northallerton or similar and have access to Leeds, near Durham or north of Newcastle. When these stories say "London", they forget it takes a canny while to get across London, but people accept it. There is no reason why a player couldn't live in say Richmond; an hour from Leeds and under an hour from Sunderland and have just as good a life as they would in at least the North West. These mother fuckers can get helicopters anyway.

Not that I'm saying we should be selling Leeds as a place, just that as an example, it will take a player an hour to get to central London from Essex or Herts, they are perfectly happy to do that and "live in London", so people should be putting that across to the players. There is plenty to do in the North East anyway.

Tbf to hull... The actual city itself is a shit hole but the outskirts e.g. Beverley, South Cave Etc is really nice.
